“Currently being refurbished, stale croissants served at breakfast!”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

As of July 2014 this place is having its roof replaced, which I did not find from the hotel website or expedia's before booking. This meant there were builders crawling around right outside our room not ideal.

The interior decor is a bit tired, so hopefully they make be going to deal with that as part of a general refurb. What really got me, though, were the stale croissants at breakfast. Any French hotelier who serves stale croissants should be sent on a refresher course!

Staff were mostly pretty offhand and, though it wasn't a terrible place, I would go somewhere else if staying Ax again.

We enjoyed our stay for 3 days - rooms adequate and amenities also adequate, however was clean and convenient. Attached Restaurant was excellent and frequented each night. Breakfast was continental and also adequate. For the price this Hotel is recommended.

Friendly reception and room adequate and clean, although a fridge would have been nice. A bit of a problem with a Bal on the Saturday night. Although the hotel did not overlook the Place de Mairie, where the bal was held, the room was still vibrating at 2.00 a.m. Reception told us that animations are frequent during the school holidays.

Breakfast had a generous range of baked goods but some non processed options, fresh fruit or real conserves, would have been nice.

We as a group of 12 stayed here for 4 nights as a base for this section of our cycling tour. The rooms are basic but clean and quiet, the staff friendly and helpful and, as we stayed half board, found the food to be excellent. The breakfast was a small but adequate buffet, that provided all food groups and good coffee and orange juice and dinner was generally felt to be excellent. Would definatly recommend this hotel for a cycling base or other short stay in this beautiful region of the Pyranees.

We stayed in Ax for one day at L'Auzeraie to be able to hit the slopes for a day.
Logis De France hotels we have always found to be great value for money and this hotel was no different.
The rooms were comfortable although the hotel is little tired.
The staff were polite.
The hotel was a short walk to the Gondola and the snow was great after a fresh fall.
I would say there were a couple of good days skiing maximum, we skiied the whole area in a day.
We did not eat in the hotel.

My wife and I were touring around the Midi-Pyrénées, and Ax-les-Thermes was a perfect place for an overnight stay. It is a charming spa town with the Ariège River thundering down from the mountains.

There was something of a dearth of hotels to choose from, and L'Auzeraie seemed to tick all the boxes. There was no car parking when we arrived, but Madame told us that the free car park was just 5 minutes away.

The room and en-suite were basic, and the room somewhat stuffy - we opened the window (nice views) to hear the river roaring by just below. This proved to be something of a problem when we tried to get to sleep, but nothing serious.

Having looked around the town, we decided to have dinner at the hotel, and chose one of the fixed price menus - a word of warning: do NOT choose the Duck Cassoulet unless you are either really cold or really hungry!

Breakfast was standard continental, and nothing to write home about.

Finding a hotel that serves food in the evening on New Years Eve in France is always somewhat of a challenge. Luckily the Auzeraie was able to offer us half board for three nights commencing on New Years Eve - albeit with a supplement as the menu on New Years Eve was a special celebratory gastronomic affair (more on that later)

Firstly, the hotel itself. It's very centrally located within the town of Ax-les-Thermes being almost directly opposite the Casino & thermal bath centre and only a short walk from the cable car station heading up to the village of Bonascre. The SNCF railway station is about 10 minutes walk away.

The rooms are typical of those in the Logis de France chain and whilst cannot be described as elegant, they are certainly functional and contain all the standard amenities you'd expect from a hotel of this grade in France. The only downside of the room is that the bath is more of a sit-up type meaning its not really possible to have a long relaxing soak. The showers have good water pressure though.

Apart from fireworks being let off in the small hours of New Years Day, for which an exception obviously needs to be made, there isn't much noise from outside. There is a very effective blackout shutter so external light isn't a problem either. The rooms are warm, with an easy-to-control heater in the room.

Now, onto the food. I've always wondered how the French manage to make some of their meals last for hours and hours - now I know the answer! On NYE, the special meal started at 2100 and didn't finish until 2 am! 9 delightful courses, with cocktails and a very good wine list. The time seemed to fly by and the restaurant was full, mainly with people not staying at the hotel which was also a good sign.

The meals on other nights were also of good standard, with around 5 choices for each course on the Table d'hote (Half Board) menu and, as mentioned above, a sizeable wine list to choose from.

Breakfast in the morning was also of good standard with the usual rolls, pastries and yoghurts etc. No hot option was offered which is understandable in France but my catch some people unawares.

The service from the staff was very attentive but not intrusive and everyone went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The owner of the Hotel, M.Marty, clearly enjoys her profession and certainly made me want to come back in the future.

All in all, I believe this to be a very good hotel for it's grade. It's not the Ritz by any shape of the imagination but if you want somewhere relatively simple, with good wholesome food at a good price then I don't think you can go wrong here.
