Domaine de la Vallee d'Ax

Hmm..I came away thinking it was OK, but not raving about it. I think the price reflects its location.... so think about this before you book !
1. Location : is on main road out to Andorra. 15 mins walk from centre - pavements full of piled up snow so we had to walk on the road. It is tiring when carrying skis and boots, and there is no shuttle service.
2. Road up into car park is steep and we needed to put chains on to get up there. They do not clear it all the time. There doesn't seem to be enough car park spaces either for all the appartments so in school holiday weeks it could be a bit of a battle to park.
3. We had a 6 person appartment. Clean and well maintained. Two bunk beds and a large built in cupboard - these were just to the right of door, but no other door to "close" them from the entrance hall. Bathroom and loo are here too. Then there is a well equipped kitchenette just off the lounge, small but had everything. Double sofa bed in the lounge/dining area. Large patio doors out to terrace. Double bedroom with sliding door and small built in cupboard. Overall impression was that six people in there for a week would be pretty cramped, and apart from the people in the double bedroom - no-one else has any privacy. But ski appartments are often compared to rabbit hutches ...
4. Rental of towels and sheets/pillowcases was 5€ per person.
5. Bring extra loo roll and basic cleaning stuff (tea towel, cloth, washing up liq etc).
6. When you check out - need to take rubbish to bins, return bedding to reception, and also give the appartment a clean (surfaces / remove mud on floors etc). Otherwise you get charged for cleaning (not sure how much though).
I would certainly agree with a previous reviewer - carefully weigh up price versus how close you need to be to town !

We are sad that your stay was not as good as it should have been. We do not have such snow, down town usually, and we do understand that it make it hard any many ways. We are tring with the town, to have some shuttle, but it seem it will not be for this year. The little way into the wood takes you in only 10 min walks down town and to the ski lift, I do agree that the way back is harder after one day on ski. However, we have some ski rent that keep your ski during the night for free, and if you have your own ski you can leave it for free under the ski lift during the night, that way you way back will be much easier.
If by any chance you change your mind, it will still be a pleasure to welcome you again, but why not to try le domaine de la vallee d'Ax during the summer, I 'll give you some good tip to enjoy your stay, and enjoy all the close activities. And next time, try to take one of our connecting appartments, that for sure that you'll like it, because it give you an other big room and some other toilets and bathroom.
Thank you for choosing us, hope to see you again.

The apartment was clean, a good size, modern, ample free parking, friendly staff and a reasonable price - so what can be wrong?
- It is quite a walk from the centre of the town at least 20 mins and much more on the way back as it is up a steep hill.
- Do read the small print before you book
You must take towels and bed linen or be charged extra for them.
You must clean the flat before leaving or be charged extra.
- One final warning, the balcony. It has wooden 'slats' and consequently is not very private. You can be seen and heard from the balcony above and/or below. During our stay some washing was hung out above and we needed an umbrella to sit outside!!

A little bit hard to find but it is nice, clean, and reasonably priced. The location is good if you want to visit the wolf park or the thermal water center.
The staff is helpful, in case you want to do some activities they will help.
As it is a little bit far from the center, you better have your food and needs with you.

We chose this apartment-style accommodation because it was fairly cheap and had plenty of (free) parking -- something that nowhere else seemed to offer in Ax Les Thermes. We had a studio for two nights, for which we had to pay a small extra charge for the bed linen and towels. Weirdly, this didn't include a duvet, so we had to settle for sheets and a blanket that we found in the wardrobe -- not a prospect I'd relish any later in the year. I didn't mind paying the few euros extra for the linen but was less happy with the EUR25 cleaning charge, which we thought was a bit steep for two people for two nights. But we coughed up anyway as we didn't want the hassle of buying all the cleaning materials and doing it ourselves (they do offer a cleaning kit, I believe, but predictably there is a charge for it). The studio itself was very small but comfortable and fairly well equipped, although there was no kettle (only a coffee maker). It was also on the second floor and there are no lifts. Location-wise, it suited us perfectly. Being on the outskirts of Ax, it is peaceful and has splendid views of the surrounding mountains but the town centre is just a 10-15 minute walk away. Although somewhat faded, the town has a fairly good selection of restaurants and bars -- including an excellent creperie hidden away in the back streets. But the highlight for me was undoubtedly the thermal baths (Les Bains Du Couloubret), where you can languish in outdoor pools of naturally-warm spring water while enjoying the mountain views. In summary, if EasyJet did holiday accommodation, it would probably be like the Antipodes Domaine de la Vallee d'Ax -- efficient, practical, no-frills accommodation at a good basic price but with plenty of little extras to push up your bill.

Residence is brand new ski resort. We rented it to be close to a stage of the Tour de France.
The appartment was small with only a fold out bed, which turned out to be pretty comfortable.
We stayed only one day, so did not have to pay for cleaning or bed linens, but towel rental was charged. People at the office were very nice and welcoming.
