“No view, no good food”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

Arrived late September, around dark. The restaurant is in front of two locks which should make for fun watching as the boats go in the locks. Unfortunately, we were told that there would not be any boats. Probably, if it is dark, people don't usually want to enter locks or navigate the canal. It was still pleasant. Our meal arrived. My wife had the entrecote and I had the fish. She couldn't eat it and gave it pretty much to me. Potatoes fried were rubbery. Fish was ok, nothing special. Our hostess was a charming person. We had been charged with a carafe of wine which had not been ordered. Our hostess horrified removed it from our bill. Maybe in summer months with extra sunlight there will be more boats on the canal. Unfortunately, food has to improve.

“Great spot slow service”
Reviewed September 29, 2012 via mobile

Arriving to a nearly empty place early evening, having been advised that the four cassoulet would take 20 minutes, we had decided to forgo any starters (limited choice) we waited for an hour for it to arrive , by which time we were cold and very hungry out on the terrace. The food was tasty and we had coffees and puds. I think it was over priced and the menus could be a little more helpful for such a large amount English speaking customers that use the place. Do the French have a sign for gluten free, haven't come across any as yet.

“Disappointing & Expensive”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

A good location by the Canal, nice decor, rustic.
Expected more from the food particularly at the price. Ordered the table d'hote @ 26 Euros, probably should have ordered a la carte! Not as tasty as the descriptions in fact quite bland at times. Slow and not very attentive service.
it's the main French restaurant in the town but we wouldn't eat here again.
If you don't mind eating Italian whilst in France (not ideal I know) then go to the Trattatoria Napoli on the other side of the canal in the town, had an excellent meal there and much cheaper.

“Good Location, tough on price!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Trene is a boat terminus for the mainstream boat hire groups operating on tge Canal Midi. It is a small town with only a limited number of restaurants, three of which are canal side and and as such catch most of the boat tourists and those who like to watch holiday sailors make Mr Beanesque mistakes whilt wearing very silly campaigns hats!

Le Moulin is undoubtedly the prime location in Trebe for views of the Canal and locks. That's the good news, the bad news is it comes at a price, lots of reviews on this place gush about it but for the most part it's the location that sweeps most of them away, the menu is fine don't get me wrong, but 1 starter, 2 mains, 1 dessert and a mid range bottle of Rose for €100 including service is selling it all a little too dearly.

Menus are only in French and are a little difficult if you are limited with your vocabulary. Regional food is championed and whilst I didn't eat it, the Cassolet was flying out of the kitchen to the very busy canal side terrace. it is busy and it is undoubtedly the preferred location of the great and the good but that said our food was average and no better. Choice is limited if one of you is a vegetarian ( even a fish eating one) and don't make the mistake of hoing for rare onthe entrecote, it's still running round the plate looking for a field! Medium brings it to you pleasantly pink. It is a great venue but there are two other restaurants with canal side tables 300m up the canal one opposite bank which are bustling and bright at literally half the price.
