“We were expecting more..”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Our trip to Sedan was worth it but our expectations were somewhat deceived : the castle is definitely as big as expected and looks enormous from outside. The impression of grandeur is quite amazing when you are standing in the middle of the central courtyard... However, the visit inside did not fulfill our expectations and the impression of enormity was lost. Most of the rooms are almost empty, there are just a few figurines here and there. Exhibition is definitely to be enriched and more information about the history of the place and its architecture is needed...
We went there in low-season so we were able to wander through the castle alone but there was nothing to explore just half a dozen scarcely furnished rooms (and great outdoors). All in all, we could have skipped the visit altogether and just go to the courtyard of the castle and make a walk around its outside walls to really feel how enormous it was...

“French History is here”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Important castle on the French history, it is important to visit it and spend time on the brasserie next door to try typical food and drinks from the region !

A guide visit should be introduce to understand the full potencial of this place.

“Awesome Castle”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

Well preserved fortification with a well put together museum to explain and display the history. The fort is in great shape; and was once the largest medieval fort in all of Europe -- well worth a visit!!

“Worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

A visit to this well preserved and very large fortress is nice to do. There are also in some instances some activities for children (like fairy tail stories open for children), there is a nice shop with regional specialty products on sale.
Several gates allow you to get from the fortress into the city. You can also walk around a large part of the chateau and the remparts are worth a visit. Walk to the top and enjoy the view over the city.

“biggest fortified castle in Europe”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

Well organised and interesting visit even if you only visit around 1/3 of the castle (some parts of the castle are on ruins, and another part is a hotel).

Specially nice in november because there was nobody else inside!

A little bit expensive (almost 8€) but if its used to maintain the castle, it is worth it!
