Loren is the American owner and Elyot is his Cuban wife run this small 5 bedroom lodging situated just behind the main street in Langres. Langres is an old fortified Gaul/Roman walled town which saw action keeping out the English in the 100 year war.

The house which is 100 years old used to belong to a doctor and the first thing you notice when you enter the house past the green gates and narrow driveway is the delightful mosaic floor and the elegant curved staicase topped with crytal balls on the newel posts.

The house is very child friendly as Loren and Elyot have two young children of their own and it is quite normal to see toys strewn around the downstairs sitting room. The downside of this is the fact that if you want a quiet rest in your room in the afternoon you will probably have the sounds of children running around echoing through the house.

Loren is very accomodating allowing you to make free local calls on his house telephone and making your eggs to order with your breakfast. Breakfast is continental, with freshly squeezed orange juice, local jams, good coffee and a selection of teas and tisanes on offer. All this while classical music plays in the background.

Our room was the Royale which used to be the doctors bedroom with views over the countryside and lake. It was a good size with a comfortable bed, but lacked a chest of drawers to put clothing away. At 108 Euros per night it is slightly more expensive than the other rooms but the space is worth the extra cost. There is satellite television in the room but you need binoculars to view the wall mounted television which is the size of a computer screen.

The bathroom was pleasant and supplied with shower gel and bath salts. Towels were clean and good quality and were changed daily if you left them on the floor.

All in all a good place to stay to explore Dijon and Beaune or sample the wines of Burgundy or the champagne region.

Room Tip: Take a walk around the ramparts and take some time to explore this delightful region os France.

We came to France to celebrate a friend's 60th and this hotel was in his list of recommendations. I booked from London and found Lauren, the owner, to be very charming and helpful when I called him. We were fortunate enough to get the last available room for our three night stay which was The Royal. It is a lovely room - flooded with light and simply furnished. The bathroom was modern with an over the bath shower. We were made to feel as though we were actually guests in Lauren's home and not in an hotel. Breakfast is simple with freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit salad, eggs and a basket of pastries and bread and jam that is produced by an artisan maker in another village. Our bed was comfortable and the hotel very quiet at night. I would definitely recommend this hotel over the others which I viewed on line in this town.

Room Tip: The Royal is lovely and large but there is also a very romantic 'red' room for young lovers

We arrived late after a delayed journey from the French alps. The hotel is delightful and the owner helpful and gracious. Wish we could have stayed longer

We stopped at this guesthouse on our journey towards Paris, with our little girl of 15months. The place is beautiful, nicely styled and the innkeeper and his family were genuinely welcoming and friendly. The last room available was in fact the master bedroom which you can see in the guesthouse's avatar. The room and its bathroom were spotless, the bed very comfortable. We couldn't enjoy the view on the garden and the surrounding countryside because of the weather which was foggy and rainy on the next day but it was very pleasant all the same. The house has a comfortable living room where on arrival you can enjoy a welcome drink or simply lounge and relax and where kids can play. Then there's a dining room where a little fridge and a microwave are available for the guests (respectively very useful for keeping yogurts and warming baby milk during the night). The owners have a dog, a quite old bull terrier which seems interested only in lapping some food crumbs around but as I am quite suspicious towards dogs I was a little afraid it might turn aggressive towards by tiny toddler girl. In fact, the guesthouse was full of kids during our stay and the owners have 2 (or 3??) kids themselves so the dog is absolutely used to kids and pay them no attention at all. But still I wasn't very relaxed and the owner was very attentive because when I was around he made sure the dog would stay away from me. I really appreciated this consideration. Kitchen is not available but you can grab something to eat outside and eat it in the dining-room. High chairs available for kids. The breakfast was nicely served by the owner and his convivial wife. Tea, coffee, milk, cereals, fruit juice, fresh fruits, yogurts, boiled eggs, ham and cheese, bread, croissants, pains aux raisins, jam and butter, peanut butter, caramel butter...what else one can ask for?
On the minus side, the garden is a bit untidy and the owner told us to watch out for dog poo which he unfailingly cleans up but... Hey, one can't be everywhere! Maybe during spring-summer time, when the garden becomes a living part of the house, it is better kept. Yes, the parking is a little tricky, don't try to enter the main gates if you have a big car but we travelled with a renault clio station wagon and with a couple of manoeuvres we made it no problem.
On the overall our stay was a real treat I would definitely stay there again!

Just a quick review of Le Belvedere des Remparts. Excellent across the board. I don't need to say any more than that really. The owner's are so friendly, considerate and helpful. The room was excellent. The food was fantastic. Even my 3 year old had a great time- could I ask for more? Simply put, no I couldn't. Thanks for a great night. We will definitely go back...

Room Tip: Cannot comment on other rooms, but ours was excellent- La Royale?

Stayed here for one night en route from Switzerland to the Chunnel. Nothing was too much trouble - coffee on demand, lovely breakfast and such a friendly atmosphere. It's a beautiful building too, wonderfully restored. A real gem - make a detour to stay here if it's not in your journey anyway!

An overnight stay in September began with a relaxing and welcoming aperitif and the view over the three ancient kingdoms of France, Burgundy and Germany. After an excellent local meal I rested contentedly on crisp white linen. And in the morning a refreshing shower and delicious fresh fruit and pastries breakfast. Perfect.

Room Tip: Countryside view
