Residence Mer & Golf Le Boucanier
Reviewed August 24, 2009

The Boucanier apartments are part of the PV group and as such come in the "functional" category with just enough space to live in but not to be couped up in.

Luckily the weather in this part of the world allows you to get out and out you should go this has something for everyone (apart from young clubbers)

Apartment sleeping six was clean with one double room, small twin bunk room and two single sofa beds that were comfortable according to 13 year old Miss Stroppy. Table and chairs for six, two ring hob, microwave, dishwasher all working well in small compact kitchen area. Separate loo and two bathrooms with shower/bath. All in all fuctional rather than luxurious but no complaints here.

Outside, balacony with furniture and view over pools and lake with sand dunes leading to beach on the right. (All apartments have splendid views of the lake)

Parking was a bit of a mare but always found somwhere but never in the immediate spaces outside the apartments.

Now, the best bit, outside is a wonderful lake with fishing, wind surfing, pedalos, rowing etc etc and all around the resort are bike paths and these extend out into the forest that blankets the area behind the village and beyond.

The beach, WOW miles of golden sand carressed by the Atlantic which at this point in France is still being warmed by the gulf drift and superb for bathing if a little rough at times. There are lifegaurds but if you walk a little away from them you get a nice piece of beach to yourself.

Great restaurants and some by the beach where you can sit and have dinner and watch the sun dissapear into the ocean and as my kids say seems to boil away into night.

Other stuff, golf course at end of the lake, Biarritz which is worth a visit and Spain around an hour away.

Oh, get out of there early on Saturday if departing then as one single road and a lot of French drivers trying to get out.

We spent two nights here (Jul 5-6) as part of an EF Tours group. The property is an apartment-hotel, designed for those staying for say a week or longer. The rooms have full kitchens, with utensils, an adjacent living area, and a bedroom. Our room had a veranda that overlooked the pretty lake and shopping village. There are many restaurants, shops, ATMs and a grocery store located a short walk from the property, as well as restaurants in the community. The weather cooperated while we were there, in that it was cool. There is no AC, so it could get warmish if the weather turned hotter. That said, this would be a lovely place for a family with children -- the ocean is a short walk away, and there seemed to be lots of other children enjoying holiday with their families. You can shop in the community and prepare meals in the room, saving loads of money. I was very pleased with this property and if I were in the area again, I would consider staying here.

I love Vieux--Boucau and all the Landes coast, and Le Boucanier is a good base to enjoy the area. Apartments -I used a duplex for six persons- are comfortable and large enough for the people that is supposed to stay there. There is a bycicle room that allows to let there the bikes and not to use apartment space to keep them safe.

There are two swimming pools at the resort, that look fine for summertime. There was some brave people that were swimming there, even if the tempareture were not the best.

Resort is by the lake, a nice landscape to enjoy, and ten minutes walking to the never ending beach.

If you want to watch TV, you must pay an extra fee, quite expensive.

Le Boucanier is the biggest resort in the area.
