“Location vs.Conditions”

I am Bulgarian. I saw the place on the web an the photos did not give the slightest idea of what the hotel actually looks. It is waayy under them. We were four people in an apartment on the 3rd fl. The owner said that people were "Killing each other to stay in this apartment" (figuratively speaking of course)...Well..not really :D The bathroom was in a poor condition - hasn't been renovated since the 90s probably, parts of the plastic towel hangers were broken, no hook for the shower, so we had to hold it ourselves while bathing and leave out towels on the toilet (this is why we dragged a bedside-table in the bathroom - to use it as a ...vanity locker). The rooms.. ONE nice thing is the balcony - with a view; Negatives : Only one A/C in just one of the two rooms; tiny TV; tiny fridge (little bit bigger than a cooler bag); disgusting locker in the double bedroom AND THE ONLY LOCKER in the apt. Well, that's about the apt. Except for the locker compensated by 30 cloths-hangers hanged in the corridor, there were enough furniture in the two rooms to accommodate our needs.
The last thing is BREAKFAST. If you are staying, bargain about the breakfast to exclude it from the package ( it would cost you 2 Euro less a day per person). It is a plate with bread, butter, tiny slices of salami and yellow cheese and soda OR coffee OR bottled mineral water.

Room Tip: higher floors have better view and larger balcon

My wife & I enjoyed our 10-day stay here. It's a family run affair with Radka, Vladimir, & George making us feel welcome. The location on the main street is convenient for a short walk to both beaches. Some other hotels I saw on the Internet were a long walk uphill behind this place. For couples & families with children this is a cozy hotel. If you have mobility problems this is not for you as there is no elevator, just a winding staircase. If you want a nice pool & hot bar to meet other singles, this is not for you either. For a mellow, romantic vacation at the beach, it was just right for us. Radka handles the cooking in the restaurant with Vladimir & his son George doing the service.
Radka cooks up some nice Bulgarian dishes along with pizza, fish & pasta. We ate many of our lunches & dinners here and the prices are very reasonable. It's also nice to view the action on the street below. During our stay the fellow guests were Russians, Poles, Hungarians, Czechs, Bulgarians & Nowegians. If you speak Bulgarian, English, Russian or French you'll be able to communicate here. We stayed in room 32 and enjoyed our hotel side balcony. The air conditioner worked very well and the TV had lots of satellite channels including English programs. My only fault would be the soft mattress but we slept very well. The maid cleans the room everyday and supplies new towels every 3-days or so. For 31 euros per day, this hotel is a good deal, especially with it's central location. Sozopol itself is a charming beach town with the "old town" & the park next to it. It is definately a family vacation spot. I understand Sunny Beach by Burgas is where all the lager louts go. All the restaurants by the beach offer a lunch special for
5.59 lev = $ 3.85. Beers at the beach bars are 2 lev = $1.37. A nice bottle of wine from the grocery store is 4.35 lev = $ 3.00. The best attraction is the Black Sea itself. The water is clear and its like walking into a swimming pool - the temperature is perfect! Not cold or warm, just right. If you are looking for a nice beach vacation with low prices in a charming little town, come here! I can see why many people from Northen Europe retire here. We will probably retire here too.

My wife and I stayed in this '3* hotel', although when we arrived we discovered that its official rating (according to the Bulgarian Tourist Board plaque in the reception) is actually 2*. Whilst the location is good and the price is cheap, the hotel is unmaintained, the service is abysmal and the food (breakfast = 1 slice of toast with a choice of 1 cup of tea or coffee) leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of decent, reasonably priced hotels in Sozopol but this isnt one of them.
