“Paper-thin walls, but otherwise quality room”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

My BF and I stayed here for 1 night. The service was above average for Bulgaria (both receptionists spoke English, the parking guy spoke German + a little English). We did as readers suggested and booked through the hotel (final cost = 61 leva), and we paid 5 leva for very safe parking. We didn't take eat breakfast during our stay and can't speak to that.

The hotel is a bit of a walk from the center (about 15-20 minutes on foot).

The room was above average for Bulgaria. Nothing fancy or with personality, but the bed was huge for 2 people, the room was clean, and the TV and heating worked. There was a slight smell from the bathroom, but nothing unbearable. The only real downside was that the walls seemed to be (as my BF said) "made of cardboard." I can sleep through anything so I was fine. Unfortunately, my BF couldn't sleep because he could hear the neighboring room's conversations /yelling well past 1 AM.

Bonus: hotel is right next to a sex shop, a gym, a "1-lev" shop, and a 3-minute walk from a CBA grocery store. :D

I stayed at Hotel Atagen in the end of Jun 2013 for 3 nights. This is not my first stay there - when I visit Burgas, I usually choose Atagen.

Pros:
- Price. The usual price for the DBL with single occupancy is 58 BGN (29 Eu). But if you book your room by phone for weekend stay (any night from Fri to Mon), you get 10% discount. It will be 52 BGN (26 Eu) / night. Remember, if you want to get discount - call them (booking.com and others don't give you this discount).
- Location - everything is in walking distance - 15 mins to the beach, 10 mins to Aleksandrovska Street (city center, main pedestrian street, many bars, restaurants, shopping, etc.), 15 - 17 mins to the South Bus Station and Burgas Main Railway Station. In 250 meters from the hotel there's a bus stop. Service # 15 from the airport stops there.
- Rooms are big and clean with good AC, TV set, en-suite.
- Good breakfast included in the room rate.
- You can extend your stay in the room from 12 pm till 5 pm for 10 BGN (5 Eu).
- The staff is nice and effective, they speak good Russian and understandable English.
- The next building just behing the hotel is a big fitness club Atlas with great rates!!

Cons:
- Sometimes you hear noise from the neighbor rooms, but it's not so loud.
- San Stefano Str. where the hotel is located is a boulevard with rather intensive traffic. Some people hear noise from cars but it didn't disturb me.

Resume:
Very good place to stay in Bourgas.

Advice:
The cheapest way to get from / to Burgas airport is bus # 15. The price is 1 BGN (0,5 Eu) for the whole 35 min ride. It starts from the South Bus Station / Burgas Main Railway Station, goes via the main street in Burgas - Demokratsia Boulevard, then - to Bourgas airport (the stop is just outside the territory of the airport at the big roundabout) and Sarafovo district. The service is very frequent and convenient. It operates every 20 - 30 mins from early in the morning till almost 11 pm.
