“Tranquility defined!”

Tom and Cindy are wonderful hosts managing one of the most beautiful properties I've ever seen! For a photographer like me, this place was a dream come true - birds such as toucans, parrots, trogons and acaris frequent the property and butterflies are everywhere! The accommodations were super-clean and super-comfortable. The property grounds are a miniature nature reserve filled with beautiful plants - and it is so very peaceful and quiet at night. Tom and Cindy are both very knowledgeable on the history of Costa Rica and I learned a lot during my conversations with them. As Douglas McArthur said.... I shall return! (With my wife!)

Room Tip: Villa #5 made for some great photography!

My husband and I had read about Uvita (and Dominical) and wanted to visit this area this trip. We did the six hour drive down from La Fortuna and it was very easy. The drive down the coast was beautiful. Finding Tikivillas was very easy using GPS most of the way and then the directions from the Tikivillas website were helpful as we got closer.

Tikivillas was awesome and I wish we could have spent more time there. We loved just sitting in the balcony of our patio. We made sure to reserve some mornings to hang out by the pool as well. Cindy and Thomas were great hosts, always making sure we had something to drink. They also gave us plenty of suggestions when we asked about restaurants, beaches, grocery stores, etc. Never had a problem finding places, it's pretty simple around this area. Tikivillas itself is very secluded and perfect for relaxing. My only little gripe has nothing to do with the hotel itself... but the fact that a lot of trucks on the main road use their engine brakes. We thought it would annoy us, but it was honestly no big deal. Seemed to be less once the weekend came too. Going to bed and waking up to the noises of the jungle made up for any noisy trucks. We loved Tikivillas and the area itself and hope to make it back someday!

We were looking for a private, short getaway at the beach when we reserved at TikiVillas in January. Judging by all the excellent reviews they received here on Trip Advisor, we had high expectations.

On arrival we found access from the Costanera road to be quite easy and we had absolutely no problem finding the entrance. Even though a 4x4 is required, it is a very short drive through their lovely grounds and we were surprised that it was so easy to reach.

Upon arrival we were met by Thomas who showed us to our room. The beautiful new villas are a tasteful and contemporary interpretation of South Pacific architecture. Shutter doors surround the suite which allows them to be completely open to the gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and the forested hillsides. Our Villa did not have air conditioning but we did not miss it all. Sleeping that night with the shutter doors open to the Pacific Ocean in the near distance was, well, a dream. After settling in we headed to the lounge area where Cindy, Thomas’s wife, offered us a welcome drink. We ordered a chilled banana daiquiri that hit the spot and we immediately fell into the easy pace of TikiVillas.

Even getting to the beach is easy here, which can be an issue for some staying at other places in the area. It’s nice not to have to get into the car to drive to the beach, it’s just a short walk across the road and if this is important to you, seriously consider staying here. The infinity edge pool is also a perfect spot to cool off and enjoy the spectacular views or a great spot for sun worshippers on the deck --that’s not me but it would have been 25 years ago :-)

On my second night there, I awoke with a painfully stiff neck. Cindy had contacted and made arrangements with a certified therapist, so within 30 minutes of seeing the condition I was in, I was lying on a massage table and getting and amazing treatment in my Villa. By that evening I was good as new thanks to our caring hosts’ attention.

Cindy and Thomas are the ideal hosts. While respecting your privacy they still manage to offer personal, friendly and nonintrusive attention to each of their guests. The style of the place suits travelers who appreciate authentic “barefoot luxury.” The beautiful surroundings offer privacy, comfort and wonderful service. There is an easy air about the place, no pretentions whatsoever and a welcoming vibe which comes from the unassuming hosts. Don’t expect resort services, this is not about that, which was just perfect for us. And with only 5 Villas, we often felt like no one else was here (loved that) in spite of the fact that they were completely booked.

There is no restaurant service at the moment at TikiVillas, but Cindy and Thomas are very helpful in finding the perfect place to have a meal. There are many more choices in the area than there used to be and finding a restaurant only minutes away to suite anyone’s tastes would not be a problem.

Incidentally, I read comments here about travelers who are uneasy about the hotel having a for sale sign on the road. The fact is that Cindy and Thomas are looking for investors to help them improve the property even further, so it should not be a concern in the least. In my opinion, I think one would be missing out on a wonderful experience by letting something as insignificant and irrelevant as that detain one from staying here.

In fact, I have to say that TikiVillas is an astonishing value for the price, whether one considers the architecture, the service or the location, so my advice is to get there before prices go up! And even if they did go up, I imagine the upgrades and enhancements would still make it an excellent choice for this area, hands down.

Me and my boyfriend had the best time here at TikiVillas during our Costa Rica trip! The rooms are jaw dropping, very modern style, everything is clean and the view is amazing. The rooms are very spacious and the balcony is huge. If you leave the doors open, what we did, you are literally in the jungle, hearing all the animals at night and with sunrise. There are inside and outside showers was very comfortable and convenient after the sandy beach.
The welcome cocktails are awesome, the breakfast, which is included is a 5 star breakfast, best in the area! The infinity pool is inviting and crystal clear, with a beautiful view. This place is super romantic, very remote and comfortable. Although you are in the jungle, there is wifi available from the lobby and dining area. The beach is 5 minutes with a 4x4 car.
We are planning to stay here again in the future, we miss it very much! Thank you Tom.

My wife and I were here for a week at the end of January 2012 (80's-90's daily). We love this area and recommend TikiVillas as one of the best places to stay while in Uvita. Need 4x4 to stay here.

Thomas and Cindy are delightful hosts, the tranquil atomsphere they create in the main house reminds you that you're on vacation as soon as you arrive.

Our Villa (#5) had AC and an outdoor "jungle shower" which is really a fun and special experience. Having two showers was a great treat for us. Very luxurious!

This Villa is the end of the row and has a beautiful view of the ocean and primary rain forest. In fact, it is set in the side of a jungle mountain right in the jungle. Just a quick walk to the car park or take another path to the main house for the pool, breakfast and drinks. Great kitchenette easy to keep clean and efficient. Bathroom was all beautiful stone with a walk in closet attached to it, great for two people. Two chairs on a open balcony with sliding glass doors. Citronella plug ins come in every room and work wonders. Not one bug bite from inside the room.

Toucans almost everyday, you start to recognize the song then spot them in the trees right off your balcony. White face monkeys made their way across the mountain a few times right behind the Villas. This place is about lounging by the pool or on your deck enjoying the immense jungle views. Gorgeous beaches are all up and down the coastal highway, take your choice and explore them all. Be sure to ask Thomas for suggestions and local favorites. Highlights were Dominical, Hotel Leonore Beach Club, Las Ventanas Beach and in Ojochol (25min drive away), Citrus Restaurant, Exotica Restaurant and Yiang Yiang Restaurant.

You are in a coastal rain forest area with limited built up areas. This is an adventure at every turn kind of vacation; Route 27 goes N and S from TikiVillas and you can cruise up and down every day. Beaches are endless with very few people. You can find a town or supermarket when you need all charming.

About 3hrs from San Jose airport. Nice ride, easier with GPS.

Once you get here you won't regret it....thanks again Thomas and Cindy!!

The short version: This place would be a steal at twice the price. You will not regret staying here, my wife and I didn't.

The long: From the great private lodges, to waking up to nature's alarm clocks (howler monkeys), to the incredible FREE breakfast, the great drinks, the beautiful pool, and two owners who understand hospitality. The location is great for taking a ton of day trips, and is a great way to experience Costa Rica. Coming from someone who hates traveling to the same place twice, I would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The rooms without air conditioners are fine, actually preferred. They have better air movement, one...
