We booked at this place based on the reviews. First the good. The rooms were clean and nice. It is relatively well located. I think your experience will be very different if you speak good Spanish and you don't show up tired. In our case it just didn't seem like there was anything Victor Sr and Victor Jr couldn't complicate. The owners were helpful, but just getting our room keys became a major, major operation. Asking for simple things such as "how much is it to rent a bike" or "is there somewhere we can get our clothes washed" became questions that took hours to answer. What we had to pay for our rooms also became a bit of a saga - and that was after several emails back and forth. I guess it is the Tico way - but if you show up tired and just want to get to your room that kind of wishy washyness just gets annoying. Another thing is that it is useful to have a car. We stayed in the "jungle" which is a good little walk in to the forest to a parkinglot-like area with two cabins. It is not exactly the kind of romantic jungle place you'd expect - it is cleared area without any flowers or anything, but you do have jungle right next to you. The first place we stayed actually has two floors that connect and you can hear everything that happens below - so basically there is zero privacy. Later we were informed that we had been given the wrong room and were asked to move. The other room was nice - if you enjoy the parkinglot garden, but the mattress was very, very soft and strangely enough they locked off one of the rooms - we were 2 people and the cabin holds 4 - something that just felt very strange when you rent a cabin. The whole thing felt a bit like these guys decided to build some cabins in the forest without any real sense of beauty or service. We stayed at several other places in Costa Rica and really felt a lot more welcome and at home.

Room Tip: There are a lot of rooms. Some people we met paid quite a lot of money for a room that looked more l...

Hello,

thank you, first of all for your time to review us and leave us some commentary so we can grow. Yes, our rooms are very clean. Its too bad you felt like you were not welcomed. This is what i perceive, which can happen, after all we are all humans and we make mistakes. Unfortunately at times my father and myself are quite busy with other guest, maintenance and tours. So i don't doubt that yes maybe we were busy or even tired ourselves. Again we are human, we are not perfect. I can definitively see some room for improvement in your comments, again thank you for your time. It was unfortunate that maybe you did not see our forest walking trail. We close doors so we can lower the maintenance cost. This is because yes its a room for 4 people and we will be renting it to you at a lower rate thus yes we want to keep cost down.
thank you
Victor Hugo

Wonderful owners and such a beautiful property!! Within walking distance to the store, bakery, sodas, etc, and just a short drive to the beaches. The owners really make this place--so kind and generous. A great value for the price as you fall asleep to the sounds, feeling like you're in the middle of the jungle with no one for miles, even if they're just next door! Only recommendations would be a double mattress change in our particular room and a coffee maker! The latter can be remedied with a quick walk down the street, but the former will need to be addressed pretty quickly...although the back kinks eventually worked themselves out;) Thank you to Los Laureles for a wonderful beginning to our trip! They went above and beyond...

Room Tip: The cabinas are worth the (very little) extra $$!!

Out of the way Uvita is worth the trek and Los Laureles is a fun place to stay. The owner was happy to drop us off at a beach, as we were carless. Breakfast of fruit or gallo pinto is served at the open air tables with strong coffee. Our large room was comfortable, but simple. There's a private 'forest' to hike and lots of fruit waiting to fall off the trees - try picking some starfruit for a quick snack!

This hotel had a great vibe. Friendly service and they were able to accommodate our short-term needs. Some rooms don't have a fridge so ask in advance. The rooms were average, but good for the price. A great place to stay if you're traveling to the coast near Uvita.

Room Tip: After 11 they close the front gates

A locally owned guest house, with cabinas both a couple of hundred yards up a slope from the main house, and close to the entrance. Cabins are simple but adequate - in the forest cabinas you can sit on your terrace and watch the birds after spending a day at the beach (two miles away and US$6 entrance fee to the National Park), at swimming pools at the waterfalls, or on a wildlife or kayaking tour with Victor (the son of the owners) who can organise just about any tour you may fancy.

the rooms are neat and clean, we felt very welcome. the owners are extremely friendly and helpful with anything and they have a wonderful private forest in the back of the garden. we made a tour with the son of the owners to the national parc marino ballena and had a great time with him touring the mangroves in a kayak, snorkeling and even trying to surf with the kayak. wifi is available, some shops and restaurants are within walking distance though it is advisable to have a car. definitely a place to come back to!

basic cabina in beautiful setting. we had a two bedroom cabina, great for a family of four. Owners were wonderful and knowledgeable. The grounds are beautiful and a trail loops around the property, offering opportunity to spot wildlife. This is not the kind of place you go to planning to lounge around and hang out in your room but it is perfect if you are looking for economic lodging to sleep in after exploring Uvita and the nearby national park.
