This tiny island off the town of Cabuya is interesting. You have to wait until low tide then you can take the 10 min. walk across the ocean bed to the island. There you can see the towns cemetery. Bring water as it can get very hot while you are there.

“Cabuya”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

Cabuya is a lovely, remote village with local ticos living a simple life. It's a beautiful place. The beaches are rocky, so definitely invest in water/aqua shoes ($40-$50 at local sporting good stores). Have Jenny and her family at El Coyote Cafe can help you with dining, transportation, tours, etc. Go fishing with a 3rd generation fisherman in a "no frills" experience with Mar Paraiso Fishing Tours. Small boat, but big fish! Take good hiking shoes, a big bottle of water, and sunscreen and hike the Reserva Cabo Blanco 2.5 miles each way to the most beautiful beach in Cabuya (again, bring your water shoes - heed my advice - even the sand is rocky). Take a local bus or shuttle to Montezuma or the beaches of Malpais or Santa Teresa. Costa Rica is a beautiful place.

“Bring your goggles or snorkeling gear”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

We enjoyed a couple hours exploring around the island and then swimming in the water. It is fun to walk out to the island (lots of cool shells and stones to see + interesting to see busy local fishermen); interesting to take a look around; and then snorkeling about is super fun. I would recommend that you wear some kind of water shoe for the swimming. It is very rocky and a little rough on your feet. A very fun time and my kids- ages 9 and 11- enjoyed themselves, too. Afterwards go eat at the amazing soda in Cabuya!

“Great place”

Great place for a rest day. Getting there after 10:30 am is the best time to go into the island. (Though always check with the calendar)

“Haunting Cemetary Island”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

The island was great, we snorkeled and walked around the cemetary. You can walk out to the island at low tide. What more can I say?
