We really recommend for island-hopping with hem. Private boat just for both of us and the captain who took us where and when ever we want. Good price, good staff and also good food!!

Mataking and Timba-Timba are the most beautiful and clean islands with awesome infinite white sand beaches.

A big problem, no about Big Jonh Scuba, but in general Semporna area, sea and islands is the PLASTIC GARBAGE EVERYWHERE.
The sea and beaches are literally covered by plastic bottles and bags. It is a pity , locals really should do something about it if they want to preserve the area and keep the tourism

Late review here (stayed December 2011) but better late than never as they say.
Our time at Big John's Scuba was the highlight of our trip (although the big man himself wasn't there). Great value, incredibly welcoming and pure paradise. Big props to Nick for being open, honest and helpful. The lads (Fillipino on the most part) were truly good natured and do amazing jobs. The food was great. The rooms are basic but you spend no time in there anyway. The diving itself? Unreal. Great variety of dive sites and plenty to see. I'd come back for sure.

The rumors on TripAdvisor are true! Big John Scuba is awesome. Every single person who works here has a huge heart and truly cares about what they do and the guests they serve.

I completed my PADI Open Water Certification with the instructor Mark Booth. He. Was. Amazing. A true-born dive instructor. Whenever I needed assistance with progressing through the course, he was there. In fact, he stayed up with me the evening before my final exam. Not only that, but he was fun, as well. I cannot recommend him more highly.

I run a food blog, and I'm quite choosy about my food. The food with Big John was some of the best I had on my 50-day trip in Southeast Asia, so far. We had ample fish, chicken, vegetable, rice, eggs, tropical fruit, etc. I definitely did not go hungry. In fact, my friend ate both here and at the $350 USD/night Sipadan-Mabul Resort, and he liked the food here better!

Considering I paid a little more for my 3-day, 2-night stay (including food, housing, transport, everything) with Big John than what I would have paid for in the US for JUST a PADI OWC course, Big John's is quite a deal. I love this place.

Oh, and, yes, Big John himself has a heart of gold. He loves life and the people he serves. Just stay and dive with him to meet this wonderful man.

Terima Kasih, Big John, Mark Booth and the Big John Scuba staff!

We took a day snorkeling trip with Big John, after a totally disgusting visit to Uncle Chang's to check out package sand pricing as the staffs were extremely rude.

I really have to compliment the efforts the company made to make everyone welcome, they even brought out goreng pisang in between snorkeling trips for everyone to snack on. Big john is an intimidating looking giant man (by Malaysian standard, lol) with the most gentle manner. I was completely charmed by his demeaner :)

I do have to say I am disappointed with the snorkeling sites near Mabul and Kapalai, mostly dead corals. I cant comment on sipadan itself as I've not been there.

So 5 star to Big John and staffs!! round of applause. You made me proud as a Malaysian, I would definitely recommend this company to everyone.

Me and my friend had such a great experience! Everyone made us feel very welcome and we instantly felt like we were a part of the Big John Scuba family! We stayed and did both Open Water and Advanced Open Water. Our instructor Mark Booth was absolutely amazing, guiding us with great knowledge and humor. The food, the diving, the people.. it was simply almost too good to be true! We stayed for 5 days and were very sad to leave.. This place is a must if you're thinking about going diving on your upcoming trip! It was without a doubt the highlight of our!
