Holiday Dive Inn is really a nice and budgeted place to stay if plan to go for diving at the well knowned island at Sabah.
i've stayed 5 days in the dorm, the bed is nice and clean.
the air-con is fully functional ^^
the staff are very friendly and helpful.
i would definitely stay again for my next time visit to semporna ~
Rooms are basic but good enough for 1 night stay. We are a large group and had to split into two rooms. One of the rooms ( with 6 beds ) had an air con that did not work properly and half the time, we were feeling hot.
There are a total of 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets which is sufficient for the 9 of us there ( there aren't other guests in our part of the dorm during the night we stayed.
The location is pretty good as there are Giant supermarket, morning market, lots of food outlets nearby.
Overall a nice clean place to crash for a night.
Walking inside the dorm room complex I noticed a strong smell of mould. Especially the ventilation of the bathrooms is contaminated (extremely unhealthy!!!), what can be seen by everyone. But also in the rooms you can notice the bad smell. On top of this the dorm rooms have shaking metal bunk beds.
An upgrade to an single room at my own cost failed due to the anger of the boss and led to a cancellation of my whole booking (including 3 days of diving) through the management.
I live in Semporna and work as a Dive Instructor so have seen the inside of many hotel rooms here. However my accommodation is fairly basic and having just returned from a three day diving trip to Mabul with my visiting girlfriend we wanted to spend our last night together somewhere with hot showers and comfortable beds. I had heard about the Holiday Dive Inn so I thought we'd give it a try.
For 96RM (less than 20GBP) we got a large, quiet room with a king size bed, AC, balcony with partial sea view, cable TV (albeit with only three channels but we didn't stay to watch a movie!!) and tea/coffee making facilities.
In a previous incarnation I was General Manager of Central London 5* Hotels so I know a thing or two about the product and service. This hotel benefits hugely from being a new build. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen was top notch (a refreshing change). The water pressure was good, guest amenities included soap and shampoo, there was ample space in the open wardrobe and hangers provided for hanging clothes and the room was clean beyond my expectations of a hotel in that price range. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially Nancy and Roslyn on front desk (Management please pass my comments on to your staff).
I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a middle to top range, excellent value for money stay. If this hotel were in Central London I would expect it to earn a four star status, which is a lot more than could be said for its competitors in Semporna in the same price range.
We stayed here for 7 nights whilst diving at Sipadan. The rooms are basic but exceptionally clean. We thought the reception staff were very helpful and location good - right in the centre near the dive operators. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Semporna.
