I have to say from the outset that we got a room upgrade free of charge and I hope we relayed our appreciation to the staff for this. We're from Australia and found we were the only "anglo's" staying here. There were lots of Malays or Singaporians staying here in groups, either snorkling or diving (they have rooms set up for this). I say this because it's not really a resort. It is too isolated (there are 3 boats a day to get or leave here) and food choices (and drink choices) are very limited. It also means that a snorkling trip may be with a group of people who rarely, if ever, have been in sea water before and for experienced snorklers like ourselves, it could be frustrating to spend a day with them. It is a stunning spot and amazing value for money, considering the usual cost to stay in over-the-water accomodation. My wife raved about the house reef, the snorkling just as good as our day trip to Mabul. The staff, while cheerful, could be indifferent at times and sometimes, if you had a concern or issue, you needed to be a little strident in your enquiry. My wife had a introduction to diving session with Sebastian, one of the dive masters at Singamata. He was fantastic so if your tempted to see what diving would be like, can recommend him. Great place to do this as well, in fact, could be a great place to get your open water PADI, especially if Sebastian hangs around. Jeffery was the other Dive master who was also very helpful. In fact, these guys were the best staff Singamata has, in our opinion. The room was basic but clean. A small word of warning. Both the basin and shower discharge straight into the sea. You should not use any detergents, etc to wash yourself. Just soap (if you care for the enviroment, that is) The toilets discharge to a septic tank who's overflow was right behind our room, so every time someone flushed, we heard it at all hours of the morning. Pick your room carefully! You also need to be aware that like the rest of Malaysia, the rubbish (plastic) in the water is terrible ( maybe even disgusting). It would of been nice to see Singamata putting a few booms out to catch this stuff (1000's of turtle and dolphins choke on this crap every year) as it surrounds the resort almost day and night. We did see staff flicking their cigarette butts into the water, reflecting the general malaise most Malaysians have about their enviroment. The other thing is if you wish to stay on say, Mabul, unless you arrive by 8am, you need to stay in Semporna itself. Semporna, I'm afraid to say, is a bit of a hole. Don't get me wrong, nice people, nice roti, but the town is rather sad. So staying at Singamata is better option than most accomodation in town. We can also highly recommend Scuba Junky for snorkling. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. Singamata in short is a amazing place to stay for the money. Just bring a snack bag, a snorkel, some duty free booze and a great book. And say hi to Sebastian for us!

Room Tip: Not near the septic tank

The floating resort was picture postcard, surrounded by miles of clear sea, you hardly needed a snorkel to see the variety of fish. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind. Good value for money. Rooms clean and basic but all you need when you have such beautiful views. Buffet choice of food quite samey, and after 3 days pretty boring, same choices for lunch and dinner. Free wifi but very slow. The fantastic views and wonderful setting outweigh the small negatives

My husband stayed at this place half year ago for almost a week. He liked everything and had a nice food experience too. So this time we went back with our friend.
The location is beautiful and snorkeling trip was nice. I had no complaint for that part.

The room was very small but okay for the price.
If you don't mind to have cold shower, shared bathroom is okay. Even when you have a room with hot shower, they turn on electricity only after 5:30pm, so if you come back from a snorkeling or diving trip, there is no hot shower.

The food was not tasty. My husband said it used to be much better before. Staff seem to have changed. So that was a big disappointment.

We stayed there for one night and they had a problem with generator, so we had no light for the whole night. I know they tried their best to fix it, but we had to eat in dark with light from cellphone! But I have to say that the manager, Vicky, is very fare and we got refund for the room for that night. And she said that this was the first time it happened. Everyone went to bed very early that night because there is nothing we could do!

We had to leave at 6:45am and breakfast was available from 6:30. There was hardly enough time to eat. You can request for eggs but it won't come in time since there is only one person to cook. That was another minus point.

So overall, it was a mixed experience. If they provide hot shower right after snorkeling trip and improve the food, I may go back. But otherwise, I rather stay in town although they don't have much.
If I were 20 years yonger, it would have been okay too.

I had a couple of weeks here and loved it. The staff are very friendly, food is good and the location is just stunning. It is like stepping into a postcard or a Windows desktop background! Travelling across the world for a diving holiday on a budget you don't expect to get something of such good quality.

The sea breeze makes it feel cool, even in the heat of the day, and the diving is some of the best I have ever done. The instructors - Alex and Dante - really know their stuff and are friendly and approachable. They also have a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm that makes diving fun. Some of the people there hadn't dived before and they were good at helping out.

I'd really recommend it and want to go back.

If you really are going to stay in Semporna you really should make sure you stay here. Semporna itself is dirty and smelly, so to stay a few minutes offshore at Singmata Adventures isnt a bad bet. Its cheap to stop and includes food, tea, coffee and water but food quality is a bit of an issue. Only to be expected for the price you pay, best to smuggle in some contraband in the form of snacks or you might find yourself going hungry. You can arrange diving and snorkelling trips daily which go out around the various local islands although some are better for diving than snorkelling so the option of staying put for the day and snorkelling round the resort is a cheaper option. All in all a good place to stay if you want to spend some time locally after diving the islands of Sipadan and Mabul which is why most people come to this part of the world in the first place.
