We booked this resort through yatra.com. They have mentioned that this is one of the best hotel with valley view. As we are very particular for the view from our room.
And yes, they do have best view from the rooms(Annex rooms). Its a old property situated in prime location.
Hotel surroundings are excellent. You can relax in the resort for a day, playing outdoor games. Also very good place
for aged people to relax. Kids can also play there, as they do have separate play area for kids.

We went there in the month of december 2009 so, we opted for Non-AC room. This resort is on top of the hill. So there manager mentioned that this resort is closed,
during rainy season. Also during peak season, do book your room in advance to avoid disappointment.

There staff is excellent. Very helpful & Polite. Room service is nice. They have huge parking area. The rooms are clean & spacious. Bathroom was clean.
The hot water is available only till 11 am. So do not expect bath before you sleep at night.

Our room rent was inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Since the hotel is situated out of town, it has its own dining hall where breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared and served either directly to your table or
on a buffet basis. The quality of the food was superb! The food is very very very tasty! The main dish of the day was also usually available as Jain food as well.
The tea was served in morning and in evening hours directly to our room.
The problem with the restaurant is loads of flies. Also they provide only veg thalis & no drinks, so if you are looking for non-veg food, this is not at all
the place to eat.

As this resort is away from market place, one needs to hire cab or should have own vehicle, for site seeing.

In all fountain has wonderful location, away from buzz of market place, with lovely view from the room.

Room Tip: Go for annex rooms for good view.

after a tiring 10 hour trip from mumbai reached mahabaleshwar at 6.30......did read the previous review abt fountain on trip advisor that its just a kilometer from ST stand so decided to walk.....i did knew my checkin is at 10 a.m but....still the hotel manager greeted me well..and showed the room personally at 7.firstly the property is awesome....rooms are so clean that one would think its a newly build one..very clean curtains, sheets, towels and most important the bath room was shiny white..dwith soaps ,tissue and garnier shampoo and dettol hand-wash.the break fast has everything nutritious from vada sambhar.sabudana khicdi..bread butterjam...upma poha..idli.uttapa..tea coffee and fruits..the hotel has 24 hours hot running water.it had a generator so u dont hav to worrry abt power cuts.daily the sheets and towels are changed as i was asked for keys thrice very humbly by the servant for doing do during my stay days..pool is clean and in good condition .its has a spectacular view from the lawn not to mention it has a helipad also..food is good though a little heavy on calories from punjabi to jain to gujju to chinese.serive is very humble very soft spoken guys...they even force u to eat one more chappati..every time i said no...just felt like home......one thing chaas is not good..pudding is awesome....has a good play area for kids and they hav a movie show after lunch and magic or puppet show after dinner...hotel has a play are which has t.t....carrom and many other indoor games..its far from market and it is actually good cause u get time to relax and even get a nice cool walk till market..pool timing is limited from 9 to 5 which should be extended,,,and one thing that i hav not seen in any other hotel is the security at fountain is tight..enjoyed my stay...

Room Tip: its gives u best value for money...

I went to Mahabaleshwar with my parents in November 2010. We stayed at this hotel for two nights (semi deluxe non A/C). Our experience was truly amazing. It was far better than we had hoped it would be (we went there not having much expectation).

Pros: Courteous and polite room staff, amazing food, Cost, Ample space for car parking

Cons: Size of the room and location of the hotel

The hotel covers a vast area of land and I was told by the manager that it is more than 100 years old. It has a good combination of old fashioned (our room belonged to this category) and modernly built rooms. Car parking is available near the rooms. This hotel is situated out of the main town and that's a relative disadvantage. To go to the bazaar, it's better to hire a taxi than to walk, though youngsters might be able to walk up the slope (but definitely, taxis are advisable for elderly people). We were pleasantly surprised by the politeness and courteousness of the hotel staff. As soon as we arrived, they were prompt in helping us carry our luggage from the car to our room. The size of the room was a bit disappointing. We had hoped for something slightly bigger. Anyway, we did not let that dampen our spirits. As is usually the case with most hotel rooms these days, plug points were limited. A staff member was allotted to our particular room to take care of our needs and he did everything that he could to keep us happy (if asked for, rooms and toilets are cleaned on a daily basis).

Now, coming to the best part (i.e.) food. Our room rent was inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Since the hotel is situated out of town, it has its own dining hall where breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared and served either directly to your table or on a buffet basis. The quality and variety in the food was superb! The main dish of the day was also usually available as Jain food as well. Coffee was served in the morning to our rooms. During the evening, coffee was once again served to our rooms with a light snack (such as Bhel Puri). One disappointing thing was the flask in which coffee was brought to our room really didn't keep it hot for a long time. I am not sure whether this was a problem with the flask got to our room (or) with all flasks in the hotel.

All in all, it was a pleasurable stay and I definitely would recommend this hotel to others.

We stayed in Fountain Hotel Mahabaleshwar for 2 nights this time. I personally wanted to check out the place after reading nice reviews about it on various travel portals but was disappointed on a number of counts.
Firstly, the food was a big letdown after all the raving reviews i read. Breakfast lacked variety, only Uthapam, Bread butter, Sabudaana ki khichdi and tea/coffee. Even for a vegetarian fare, it lacked the very basics like cornflakes, milk, fruits, fruit juices (forget more complicated items like paranthas, dosa, idli, sauteed vegetables). We took only one breakfast and preferred to have all other meals outside after that experience.

Secondly, hot water is available only till 11AM, so if you are in the habit of taking a shower before bedtime, be prepared for a very cold one.

We were given an upstairs old annexe room with a nice view. It was non-AC but you don't need AC in Mahabaleshwar in Nov. Toilet was clean, but had bar soaps. Not even tissue papers were provided. Bed and bath linens were clean.

Things to look out for:
check the view from your room as a lot of rooms face inside. Be careful not to take rooms above the dining room/kitchen. In short, this is not a property you can book online.
It is better not to go for AP plans, though the hotel staff try hard to sell that. The food is best taken outside as they only serve set thalis with very little variety. I've stayed at a lot of hotels in india with similar rates (3300/- per night, off season rate) with a lot better food arrangements.
Good to keep in mind the hot water limitations in winter. In summer, please note that ACs dont work during power cuts which can be pretty frequent in a place like Mahabaleshwar.
Overall, i would not suggest this hotel as the first choice in this price group. There are at least a couple of hotels/resorts in mahabaleshwar i can think of right away that has much better service and facilities than this one with some charging even less.
