picturesque location...guess the best view of mahabaleshwar. gr8 place to unwind...very relaxing, loved the deck area next to the pool n the bar...
Rooms-- too many types of rooms very confusing... to relate to the reviews. we were at the pool side rooms...shabby n badly maintained.for about $200 one sure does expect more.

food was very nice...better than what we expected...indian,continental and italian all of very good standard. breakfast could be better.

swimming pool was nice n solar heated so was the steam room.

spa was excellent....authentic kerela massages..

.recreational facility....snooker table n t.t.table...was fun ...yet lot more can b done... courteous n polite staff....by n large better than average...yet expensive.
excellent and potential property-- lot of construction happening...guess will soon have a facelift.

Room Tip: the pool side rooms have the best mountain view....booked back to back during season time ...hence m...

BRIGHTLANDS RESORT spills across several levels of the hillside looking out onto splendid views. The mixed reviews for the resort are partially accounted for by the mix of accommodation on offer.

We stayed for five days in a Lavender Grand Room (room 433). It was on the top floor of the Lavender building and we had a large room with a balcony. Below and to the left it overlooked a small village and to the right strawberry fields for which the town is famous. In the distance the panorama of mountainous ravines was marvellous. We thought the view extraordinary and spent a lot of time relaxing on the balcony. There are reviewers who complained of looking over the village. It may be that most of them were Indian tourists who may have a different attitude than Europeans. We were delighted to watch the children feed the chickens and fly kites, women cook the family meals, older boys play cricket and to hear the sound of the muezzin calling to prayers.

The room itself was spacious with a very comfortable bed, a seating area and a table and chairs. There was a lot of storage space and an unusually generously sized fridge with a freezer that made ice from our bottled water. It wasn’t the most up-to-date décor but it was comfortable and easy to live with.

The staff seemed universally helpful and friendly. The reception staff were particularly charming as were he staff in the restaurant. All the many people employed in the resort seemed to have a great attitude towards the guests.

Meals in the restaurant (we ate Indian food during our five day stay) was delicious and a member of the senior restaurant staff (Raku) especially helpful when asked for advice.

One reviewer in TripAdvisor complained about the poor wi-fi. Our experience was absolutely the reverse. We had wi-fi reception as good as we have had anywhere in India. And, unlike the absurd prices charged by Taj Hotels and many others, it was free. I asked the guests manager about the bad review and she said that the wi-fi service wasn’t always functioning well and that, further, it depended on where you were staying in the resort, as service could be less reliable in some buildings. Our experience was extremely positive.

Mahabaleshwar isn’t really on the major European tourist routes. The resort is popular with weekenders from Mumbai and Pune, and for the first days we were the only Europeans. Things changed when a party of seventy students and staff from Cornell University, New York arrived. Brightlands coped well and we never felt crowded. There are enough terraces and spaces to find quiet corners.

There is work going on to further develop Brightlands so some guests might be aware of construction work. We didn’t find it intrusive in any way.

It all depends where you are staying. We sometimes heard faint disco music but not loud enough to trouble us, others closer to the source may have had problems.

Brightlands is a bit of a mishmash of uncoordinated architecture and different buildings seem to have little relation to the whole. The latest “On the Edge” bar is smart and stylish and there is a new functions room under construction that is equally contemporary though not necessarily harmonious with the rest of the resort.

Brightlands does have a slightly dated feel to it and it is difficult to award it stars because so much depends on where in the property you stay. And what you want from your stay. It is not luxurious but we were extremely comfortable and enjoyed our five days.

Room Tip: We very much liked our Lavender Grand Room which was, we thought, the best short of the suites and t...

we stayed for 2 nights at the hotel in lavender wing. The room had a private sit out although with no view. The room was comfortable except for the bed back which was old style...need more pillows. The hotel has various restaurants- italian, indian& continental and the bar had an excellent sitting area. The food was ok although the mughlai was tempting. The best part of the hotel is the spa which was amazing value for money. Must spend a day at the spa

Room Tip: must spend time at the spa

It is expensive but maybe your best bet in Mahabaleshwar as there aren't too many options in this range. Too many categories of rooms and can get confusing as not all are good. The Spa is excellent and the people really knowledgeable. Buffet breakfast is OK. But the highlight in food are the wood oven pizzas - they are better than what you might get in your cities as well.

The Hotel has a stunning view with beautiful room locations, We had stayed in the Poolside wing the rooms feel was good the ambience of the room was very dull.... The hotel staff was very courteous and service was really good....One should give a try at the Spa as it is value for money.....Food was good and you get a lot of options for Lunch and Dinner. The Hotel is located nearby to Echo Point thus giving an exotic view of the location. A must try hotel

The biggest annoyance with our stay was the sub standard rooms we got on arrival - they faced out onto a wall, the bedrooms which were split on a higher floor had a view but overall the rooms were very disappointing. At the time of booking it wasn't clear what rooms we were going to get, only that they had a view. Finally we moved into the Lotus Suite, but it meant cutting our stay short by one night, an awkward and frustrating moment in the holiday. The suite itself is excellent, great views and wonderfully decorated, with indoor and outdoor areas to lounge as well as a jacuzzi in one of its two bedrooms.

All cuisines are served in the restaurant. The wait staff is attentive and gracious, the tandoori food excellent, but the rest is somehow disappointing. The breakfast is abundant and delicious.

Try the spa here even if you aren't a house guest. It's a great spa, good ambience with some knowledgable therapists.

Room Tip: Get the lotus suite if you are a family and can afford it, it's much nicer than two separate roo...
