Mahableshwar over the years have changed from hill station to now a small city by its own rights. Even-though you can still find the old charm in parts like old mahableswar panchgani and wai. The market place is chaotic as in any small city would be though products they sale are a bit unique. for example Wooden walking sticks, strawberries, mulberries, fudge and jelly choclates and an army of various syprus and jams and honey

we visited during monsoon, the place was just beautiful and cant be expressed in words, the mountains, greenery, the place was covered inside clouds what a place, as though you were in heaven, could feel the clouds, at past midnight even 10 meters was hardly visible, had the most wonderful time till now... must go during monsoon

No good sights to see.. There are only 2-3 places and rest all are the extension f the same place. Traffic is superbad onn the spots and on every lane ther are localites who ask for toll money.. Lake is only attraction out there.

This is located aaprox. 290 Km from Mumbai at an altitude of 1372 mtrs above sea level.
Proceed to Pune on Express way for about 160 km. Do'nt leave the expressway & continue on the same road towards Satara. You will pass through Hinjewadi junction, Baner & Wakad etc. Just continue on the same road going over all the flyovers; continue for about 60 km till you reach a junction for Wai. Road signs will warn you just before reaching this turning point. You take a right turn under the flyover to go to Wai. Mahabaleshwar is located on the same stretch of raod 71 Km from Wai Several Raspberry & Strawberry Farms (Mala's & Mapro) are enroute.
Strawberry Festival was being celebrated at Mapro's Strawberry Farm with full enthusiasm from 28 -31 March 2013. They had organized trips to their farm (from 0930 to 1630 hrs) where you could see & pluck strawberries directly from the plants..They were offering free strawberries to eat as much as you want. Various products like chocolates, crush, syrups, squashes, toffees etc. were on sale at discounted prices on MRP.
On reaching Mahabaleshwar we checked in a mid class Bharat Hotel (near new Lake) . . Double Bed with all meals cost Rs 3500/ per day (negotiable); Check out time is 0900 hrs. (Bharat Hotel Phone-02168-260233; 261310). This Hotel is a newly constructed property with good rooms, clean toilets & bedding and reasonable veg meals. freshened up before going out for sight seeing.
We hired a 2.5 hrs taxi trip for Rs 450/- to see 11 locations namely Arthur's Seat, Hunting Point, Echo Point, Malcom Point, Tiger's Spring, Window Point, Savitri Point, Marjouri Point, Monkey Point, Pnchganga Temple & Old Mahabaleshwar Temple. Both these temples are ancient & worth the visit. All the points are locations from where you would get breathtaking view of the Sahyadri Hills. From Bombay (Carnac) Point near Raj Bhavan / MTDC Resort, you may see a sunset view (Only on a clear day without clouds) but it is too crowded & noisy at that particular time. RTO approved tariff is applicable to all Taxi tours. Plenty of guides are available at every junction in the city. There is a parking congestion in the market area from Cafe Coffee Day near Irani Petrol Pump to Shivaji /Aram Chowk, Plenty of shooing can be done with bargaining.
Venna Lake is another god place worth the visit where you could go for boating (Rs. 230 for a rowing Boat for 30 minutes) or a paddle boat (Rs 220 for 30 minutes). Close by is a place for horse riding. Don't forget to eat carrots & red radish fresh from the farms nearby.
Pratapgarh Fort is located 24 Km away famous for Shivaji's Bravery; but it needs a full day to cover it properly.
The Waterfalls were dry at this time and are seen only during / after the rainy season.
Weather was hot during the day; nights were cool without any need for woolens.

i traveled to mahabaleshwar from pune by road . i planned for a round trip journey in 24 hrs and it was comfortable enough. our main objective was the mahabaleshwar temple.
Mahabaleshwar Temple : the temple is quite old and of religious importance. approx distance from pune would vary between 150-175 kms. total travel time would be around 4 hrs on week days and little more on weekends due to rush of the traffic. enroute there are quite scenic spots incl the dam in which there is provision for boating and lot of eating options. Dont hire the guides to the temple, which you shall start finding approx 15-20 km short of the temple. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REQUIREMENT OF A GUIDE. the layout of temple is simple and there is hardly any rush.

ONE WILL FIND FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES INCLUDING THE FRESH STRAWBERRIES. MAHABALESHWAR IS FAMOUS FOR THE SAME.

COUPLE OF ADVICES: 1. CARRY OWN DRINKING WATER AND HAND SANITIZERS/ SOAPS.
2. DONT RELY HEAVILY ON GPS AS THERE IS LOT OF . . ............ SIGNAL BREAKAGE.
3. TRAFFIC CAN BE QUITE TRICKY INCL THE PARKING SPACE. . 4. BEWARE OF THE SAME AND HAVE ADEQUATE TIME IN HAND.
5. KEEP THE SPARE TYRE AND JACKS ETC HANDY AS I DIDNT FIND . MANY VEHICLE REPAIR SHOPS (ASTONISHING CONSIDERING . THE TRAFFIC) / AIR STATIONS ALTHOUGH THERE ARE . ADEQUATE NUMBER OF FUEL STATIONS (NOT THE CNG ..ONLY . PETROL / DIESEL)
