“Just OK, WiFi setup annoying”
Reviewed August 30, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in the Banana Republic side, first floor pool facing room across the road and a bit further along from the main Cavala Resort. This was during monsoon season and the place felt like it was shut down, with plastic sheeting covering the hut rooms (Samui etc).

The room was OK. The netting in the bathroom left a lot to be desired - big gaps meant that I usually saw a mosquito hovering around in there.

The little pool was decent but there was a constant and unpleasant smell of sewage lingering around.

I wasn't too enamoured with the service. Compared with other hotels I stayed at in India (and Goa), where staff would fall over themselves to be of assistance, there was a general air of ... not sure what the right word is ... indifferance? Two examples: (1) for two days running, the people in the room next to me left the remains of their room service meal outside their room for the animals and birds to pick at, and nobody came to clear it up (2) at breakfast (included in the cost of the room) the first two days the waiter didn't bring me half the stuff I ordered.

My biggest gripe was the lack of any WiFi at all in the Banana Republic area, and the stupid 1 hour for 20 Rupee tokens you had to buy for the main reception area. This is 2013! Sort out WiFi for the rooms!

Location-wise, it's OK, a short walk to the beach.

Stayed with family. Spacious old style high ceilinged Goan rooms. Bit tight with toiletries. In room refrigerator stocked with water and beer. Breakfast from limited menu but good - and good service. Nice strong cup of java. Lunch and dinner menu serviceable but suggest other dining options nearby or a quick ride away in Calangute. Evenings, the bar area becomes a happening place with retro rock bands dishing it out till 1 AM and then recorded music till 3 Am on weekends. BTW, having a room does not guarantee you a table for dinner - so don't forget to reserve. If you happen to have a room above the bar, and do not want to party late, then there is no way to escape the din. Grab a beer and stick it out would be the advice. Turn right to head toward Britto's for seafood, and the beach. Turn left to get to Tito's nightclub.

Room Tip: Not above bar!

This hotel isn't perfect, but I so love this place. It has one of the better locations in Baga. The rooms in the back are quiet and spacious. Their plus point is their bar/restaurant. Evenings there after sunset is simply superb. It is frequently visited by locals and they seem to love it for a very good reason - it's so much fun. Live music is good. Food is good.

We were a group of 6 and had a great time there. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back for some quiet time.

If you are new to goa then one should start with baga. It's the hub of night life with great food and parties around. Cavala sits in the centre of it all. The rooms are very nice, clean and bathroom are very good. They have live music twice a week and that's their biggest draw. The food though is very average and wouldn't recommend you eat here.

While we did not stay here, we walked in for dinner as we were drawn by the live retro music that was happening here. The restaurant is clean and fresh as you walk in. The bar is well stocked and the live band that was playing kept the energy high. We ordered mostly seafood which were all fantastic. The chilli beef we got was crazily overcooked and tough.. we ordered a pitcher of Sangria, but for the most part it was grape juice with chopped apples.. so we had to send that back.. the list price was Rs.1600!! But the ambience, the music, the crowd and the food nailed it for us and we just ended up finishing up there at around 2am and went back to our hotel smiling all the way. Keep it up guys and go easy on the beef and get a real Sangria recipe. :)

200 meters from waters of Baga beach, the location though not on the beach is just perfect. the rooms are nice and comfortably larger than most 5 star ones. the bath could have been better but then it is acceptable with a shower that works and a single piece of soap thats a bit stingy in these modern times.
the worst bit about this place is the breakfast inculded in the deal....its not a buffet as most would expect it to be but a limited menu and quantity one, so please be warned that brunching to save on costs will not do. the lunch and dinner menu reads super but the prices are a bit high for the tourist that brave Goa in the rains. what can the hotel do? the raw material prices are high for all those exotic crabs, lobsters etc. Walk across to the Anthony's, and others for a bite with prices a bit on the lower side.
The people at the hotel are helpful and understanding so when you have a problem that needs resolving, please do approach them.
we(family of 4 adults and 2kids in 2 rooms)stayed here for two nights and three days, and enjoyed our short stay.
If you without your own transportation, then this is a good place to stay if you do not need a buffet break fast and some other perks.
Excellent deal on the rooms which most other hotels in the vicinity refused to provide and stayed empty..(they offered a better deal when we requested in person for a quote)
over all please do visit Cavala as its a great place.

Room Tip: ask for rooms with bath's on the farm side and not the main road.
