“Good place to have a drink and relex”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

I have not stayed in Cavala, I have visited them once for having Lunch. The menu seems to be impressive more than the food they serve. The decor was good and warm. However, too many flies to enjoy the decor or the warmness. Food was ok type...neither out of the way...nor it was bad. The cocktail drink (the long Island Ice Tea) was good...overall a nice place but ......something is missing...

Good simple rooms, nice and green, great beer, great evening music + ambience. The only negative was the quality of the towels. Really brown and smudged. But great location and history and super for the price point.

Room Tip: Upstairs is best

I went to the Cavala with my girlfriend in February 2013. We have stayed there over the past couple of years and always enjoy the great ambiance and peaceful feel of the hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. One of my friends described it as simple, but done very well. The staff are friendly and attentive; nothing was too much trouble. Our satellite television box stopped working and we had a leak in the bathroom and a member of staff was immediately sent to rectify the situations. I was a little disappointed that the room seemed free of gecko's; one of the best forms of protection against mosquito's. And they also look cool. Food is on the more expensive side but always excellent. My girlfriend has dietary requirements and the chefs were always happy to alter dishes to suit. The BBQ grills represented fantastic value for money and were brilliantly tasty.

The taxi drivers who work for the Cavala are friendly, honest and do not overcharge.

I would highly recommend the Cavala.

We have stayed in Goa on numerous occasions and although the area is worth a visit, finding mid range accommodation is a challenge. I would always recommend to either go 'high end', or as cheap as possible, because that helps to set yourself up for success. Mid range in India is 'hit and miss' and often leads to disappointment. We stayed in Cavala twice, so the negativity about the resort might seem misplaced.... However, it really does not deliver in line with the room-rates.

Our first stay was fine. Nothing to rave about but we had a big room on the Banana Republic side with a huge balcony overlooking the pool and it was clean. We were with a big group of friends and had a great time together, which made me a lot more forgiving about the shortfalls then I should have been. As a result we ended up in Cavala for a 2nd time in February 2013. Again we stayed at the Banana Republic side in a room called 'Samui'. Looks like a nice Asian cottage and one would classify it as charming. It will be to some! Unfortunately, it is far from perfect.....

Service is not a strong point and basically ends after carrying your luggage to the room. The shower is atrocious. It takes a good 5 minutes before the drizzle gets warm, don't expect too much water. A tiny soap block, empty shampoo tube and a towel are provided and that's it! After the 1st night the room did not get cleaned and towels were to be recycled. The room is noisy and the mini-bar does not get replenished but offers 4 beers. The Cavala restaurant serves acceptable food, but you need to be relaxed and able to take your time, because the staff most definitely does. Some might call them friendly, warm and nice, but I find the whole presentation unacceptable. Ugly, dirty uniforms and 'a few cans short of a six pack'.

For a room rate of approximately 100 Euros this does not deliver!!!

Room Tip: Banana Republic area is still the more quiet area.....

We did not stay at Cavala but visited them for their Sunday afternoon live music experience. Reached a little late (almost 2 pm) and found the band & guests brimming with energy! I had a few rums while my friend stuck to Breezers, accompanied by a very generous portion of roast beef salad (melt in ur mouth meat!!). The music was peppy and mainly 60s & 70s rock 'n' roll -- which seemed to work well with the crowd (mainly older Europeans). Service was so-so (twice she was served a Kingfisher pint instead of a Breezer, and I basically had to self-service myself ice) but the band was loads of fun -- they even had a couple of guests step in for an impromptu karaoke session :-P Overall; a Sunday afternoon spent well....

Goa has more hotels than you can choose in a lifetime, but you can’t choose better than Cavala. Owned by Marius, one of the friendliest Goans in Goa, it’s run by a wonderfully warm team of people that he’s handpicked.
One of Goa’s earliest hotels, Cavala was set up when Baga was all rice fields and no shacks. Even today, it remains one of the friendliest places in Goa. The rooms are large, clean, and come in a variety of sizes and prices. All the bathrooms and large and clean and the rooms are cleaned daily. The hotel has a lovely little pool and a range of suites ringed around it.
But the highlight of a stay at Cavala is the bar-and-restaurant and the live music Band Nights that it regularly hosts. Hosting a range of great local talent, it acts as a magnet for some of the liveliest party-goers across the state and assures a night of clean fun where everyone knows everyone else. And when the music’s done, you can always dig into a range of delicious Goan and other delicacies. And if you want to step out, distractions like Britto's, Tito's, and Souza Lobo are very close at hand,
So the next time you’re in Goa and want to party like the Goans, you know where to go.

Room Tip: Ask Benny the bartender to make your a Mojito Get there early on band nights since it fills up fast...
