“Sunday Live music and grill lunch”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

We did not stay at Cavala but visited them for their Sunday afternoon live music experience. Reached a little late (almost 2 pm) and found the band & guests brimming with energy! I had a few rums while my friend stuck to Breezers, accompanied by a very generous portion of roast beef salad (melt in ur mouth meat!!). The music was peppy and mainly 60s & 70s rock 'n' roll -- which seemed to work well with the crowd (mainly older Europeans). Service was so-so (twice she was served a Kingfisher pint instead of a Breezer, and I basically had to self-service myself ice) but the band was loads of fun -- they even had a couple of guests step in for an impromptu karaoke session :-P Overall; a Sunday afternoon spent well....

Goa has more hotels than you can choose in a lifetime, but you can’t choose better than Cavala. Owned by Marius, one of the friendliest Goans in Goa, it’s run by a wonderfully warm team of people that he’s handpicked.
One of Goa’s earliest hotels, Cavala was set up when Baga was all rice fields and no shacks. Even today, it remains one of the friendliest places in Goa. The rooms are large, clean, and come in a variety of sizes and prices. All the bathrooms and large and clean and the rooms are cleaned daily. The hotel has a lovely little pool and a range of suites ringed around it.
But the highlight of a stay at Cavala is the bar-and-restaurant and the live music Band Nights that it regularly hosts. Hosting a range of great local talent, it acts as a magnet for some of the liveliest party-goers across the state and assures a night of clean fun where everyone knows everyone else. And when the music’s done, you can always dig into a range of delicious Goan and other delicacies. And if you want to step out, distractions like Britto's, Tito's, and Souza Lobo are very close at hand,
So the next time you’re in Goa and want to party like the Goans, you know where to go.

Room Tip: Ask Benny the bartender to make your a Mojito Get there early on band nights since it fills up fast...

We stayed at the pool suite, spacious rooms, clean and neat, good access and location, their retro nights on Friday are rocking....Sunday brunch at the pool side was super hit!! service is very prompt and staff is very courteous....bathrooms are clean and water pressure is good in the overhead shower(I think which is very imp)......overall great place to live...Will definitely visit again on my next trip to baga.

The hotel has a huge advantage, it is located near the baga beach and is just 5 mins walk. All the popular places like Tittos are near to the hotel. The food is good. The breakfast which is included with th eroom has only two options- Poori bhajji or egg and toast. There is live music on weekends and the menu is pricier tan the regular days. There are lot of restaurants near the hotel which serve very good food. Near to Baga Beach there is a Bakery which serves amazing sandwiches and coffee. we booked a suite which was quite spacious but there bathrooms really need improvement. The staff is ok, we asked for a late check out but was denied though the hotel was not full. The hotel also books those star cruises tickets if you are interested and also helps you book a taxi.

Room Tip: Choose the suites in the corner which opens to a large field. Its very quiet

This was our second stay in Cavala and this time we stayed in the slightly more pricy room - Bali room.

The cottage rooms are nice and the place itself is beautiful, there is a swimming pool - small one albeit.

The rooms are comfy and bathrooms are large. The restaurant has a day (I think Sat) where they play retro music and the whole vibe of the place changes.

The live music is lovely - be sure to go early and catch place though. The place teams with locals who know to have a lot of fun.

The negatives -

Frogs in the bathroom. You may be surprised by other insects too
Frequent power cuts
THe items in the menu are very limited and the food is strictly ok.
The staff are strictly ok - not ever enthusiastic to make u feel welcome. YEs goa is known for slow service but it is the attitude which is different here

Room Tip: THe cottages are nice and so are the ground floor rooms - however be aware of insects and frogs in a...

Made a reservation at Cavala based on reviews and was terribly let down upon my arrival. I had booked into one of the more expensive rooms after making several calls to India to get a better idea of the different room options (minimal info on the website). Upon arrival there was a lot of whispering behind the desk- it was clear there was a problem but no one would tell me directly. After waiting for 10 minutes i finally asked and was told the room i booked into was not available. I was then offered a room that was of a much lower value than i had already paid for. It was dirty and there were several snakes and lizards at the door to the room. I insisted that i have a room of at least equal value to the money i had paid (in advance of arrival). After another 30 minutes and having been dragged to see several low budget rooms i was finally offered one of almost equal value. However the next day i was forced to move into another room. The new room had no AC and there were several lizards inside. When i asked the grounds people to reomve them it took quite some time and i was not offered any alternative for my comfort. Once the lizards had been removed and their entry point identified the holes in the walls were not blocked, but rather the staff put empty egg shells and told me there was about a 70% chance they would not come back. Not very re-assuring.
There was about 20 minutes of wifi in the three days i was there, although this is advertised as free. The staff apologized for the issues i encountered but just kept making excuses and did nothing to make me feel more comfortable.
The place was run down and needs a lot of work. I am used to staying in hostels so i was not expecting a 5 star hotel but i did expect a clean basic room and this was far from it. I would advise anyone looking at Caval to book elsewhere.
