“Very nice property walking distance from the beach”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

The rooms of the hotel are Value For Money for the price they are charging. The best thing is the property is very close to the beach: 3-5 mins walk from the room. There are suite rooms available for the entire family to stay together.

We were extremely impressed by the hotel when we went in 2008. This time we were again back at the hotel. Everything is good.
Proximity to beach, hospitality, rooms
Even the tariff has not increase much. It will be on a higher side for backpackers but affordable for family people for serious fun

Before the trip in Nov'2010...we have stayed many times in Colonia Santa Maria before. We visit Goa atleast once a year and always stay in CSM.

If you are going to goa for parties, beaches and all the action & buzz of north goa, you cannot go wrong with CSM. Its right next to the beach and walking distance to all the popular nightspots like Tito's and Mambo's in the baga area.

The rooms are all very clean and spacious two room units with small balconies and clean bathrooms. The hotel pool is nothing much to write home about but good enough for a dip in case you are avoiding the sea for any strange reason.

The hotel staff is a strange mix of courteous, friendly yet occassionally uncooperating at times in typical goan fashion. The service in anything though (room service, check-in) is really fast and prompt.

This hotel does not try to be anything its not....the main USP is the location and that quite frankly is just unbeatable. Its far enough for a good night's sleep and yet a few yards in any direction lands right in the action of north goa. Its clean, spacious, decently priced & arguably the best property in the area this close to the beach. I would recommmend it without any qualms. Highly recommended for youngsters travelling in groups and families.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floors of block 12 onwards for being closer to the sea.

Pros :- Good location, amazing view of Baga beach, very friendly staff, neat and clean pool !!

Cons :- Bathrooms !! They were really not worth it !!! It's a 3 ft by 6 ft bathroom, with a basin, toilet and a shower area stuffed inside!! No health faucet ... and a health person cannot even turn around. Very avg rooms, with sub standard blankets given on day one.

The service and the staff is very good ... but the quality and taste of the food is very avg.

Proximity to the beach made the only difference, else I would have had to vacate the room immediately and asked for a refund !!!

Safety :- A concern, as though there are security guards at the gate, the property is divided and it has multiple owners within the same premise !!!

This is a fairly nice property with good proximity to Baga beach, the shacks and the more happening north Goa parts of town. The rooms are large with a living room, sit out and a bedroom. The bathrooms were ok and the windows open out to the garden so beware of insects in the bathroom if you leave the lights on. Air conditioning is ok but very necessary with the humid Goa heat. We went as 3 couples and the sit out offered a very nice experience to chat and chill with a drink. There are a lot of options for food and drink at the various shacks around the area. Breakfast was ok but felt very limited in terms of spread. Not much of local goan fare either. A lot of foreign crowd hence maybe the continental flavor. They have evening parties at the restaurant with a DJ/ Karaoke but we didn't participate. The swimming pool as advertized on the web page is a let down, very small and mostly foreigners basking in the sun so we didn't venture near it and chose the sea instead. Taxis are available outside or a short walk upto the main road. Lot of options to shop but make sure you fine tune your bargaining skills before going up to them.

the location is d best feature as it is on baga beach..u can just stroll down to d beach in d morning..rooms are comfortable but not really sea view unless you take the last villa and tito's and other places are not far either. Restaurant is nothing great..I would recommend eating out. Value for money..do not expect over the top facilities. Another great thing is parking right along the villa..if not already occupied.

Room Tip: ask for last villa for a view..otherws all rooms r d same.

We stayed at the CSM in December 2009, had a fabulous time and loved this hotel. However, we went back late December 2010/early January 2011 and could not have been more disappointed. We arrived at hotel and were given a room right down near the beach - one of the single storey ones that are like attached cottages. At first, I wax pleased that I would just be able to walk out of our room, turn right, and be on the small path on the beach. This was right at the bottom where all the bikes/scooters park up. When we got to the room, though, even before going in, a lizard went straight onto the room through a huge gap in the window frame, in fact, I have no idea how the window stayed in the frame because the huge gap went all the way round! I don't mind the odd lizard, but all the mozzies were free to come and go as well. When we walked into the room, the stench just hit us - I've never smelled such a strong damp smell in all my life. I was very unhappy with the room. A window at the back of the room opened to just s big mound of earth and a wall. This was also just one room and a bathroom and fairly small compared to what we had last year, which was a good sized living room, bathroom and bedroom. This was only about the size of the bedroom from last year. I don't normally complain about rooms, but the smell an all the mozzies were just too much and with a window hanging in by a thread, more mozzies were free to come and go and the room did not feel secure. We went to reception and complained. I insisted that they give us one of the cottage ones that we had last year and wad told that no other rooms were available. I wouldn't bugde on this though - the holiday had cost an absolute fortune because we were there for New Year - a lot more than the previous December with a totally unacceptable room. We were then asked to bring our luggage back to reception and advised that we could go out for a meal/drinks for an hour or so and that we would be given another room. The one we ended up with was marginally better. The living room was never used because it was so dark - one window was in the hallway at the front and the side window faced a wall, so this was a really gloomy room. The side window also had gaps all around the frame, so the bugs came and went. I understand bugs being around, but I do think windows should be fitted correctly or at least have the gaps filled in. The room also smelled strongly of damp, although not as bad as the first room provided. The balcony wad at the back - if you walk to the front entrance, where the security area is, we were to the right on the other side of the wall, so just had a view of the wall down the side, but this was also a small garden area, so was quite pleasant. Peter, the manager was back in the UK while we were there and I feel this may be why some of the other services were so poor. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel, but we did eat breakfast most morning, but even here, this was a much lower standard than last year. We still had a great time as we love Goa - we've already booked for 3 weeks in December, but will not be staying here again, which is a shame as the location is great. I think I was perhaps more disappointed because the room we had the year before was do much better, but really, this hotel needs some upkeep and care.
