“Fantastic Hotel and staff!!”
Reviewed March 17, 2011

Just got back from another fantastic 3 weeks at the Riverside Regency Hotel, as soon as we got there we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome back from all of the staff that have been there for many years, there are a few new members of staff but they are equally as helpful, friendly, clean, attentive and welcoming, it didn't feel like we had been away for a year!!!! Say hi to Seb and Bob they are great.

The rooms we have always had are cleaned daily with the towels and sheets changed every other day, wardrobes are big enough to fit 2 people’s clothes in and didn't have that nasty musty smell you sometimes get. OK the mattresses were a bit on the thin side but aren't they all in Goa? however they were comfortable and clean (and didn't smell) and I slept well all of my 3 weeks.

We ate many times in the restaurant, the food is lovely and we never had a bad stomach once, in fact never have in the last 7 years, if we did it would be impossible to blame one restaurant unless that is the only place we had eaten as there are so many to choose from locally!!!. The safety deposit boxes are kept secure overnight with access between 08:00 and 18:00 which is great and makes it more secure.

The location is great, it’s walking distance to Baga beach, about 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk, this is great because it’s far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough if you want it, it is a bit dark at nights but common sense would tell you to walk in well lit areas and not across the car park at night.

All in all we met up with some old friends from past years who keep on returning to the fantastic Riverside Regency Hotel and met some new friends who are returning next year, there are a lot of Russians in the resort but aren't they everywhere in Goa now?. Have re booked to go back next year and really can’t wait, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else now.

it was really a great stay. we enjoyed a lot. the service, staff and the ambiance was excellent.
as it was our first tour to Goa, we really had a great value to our money and the most important is that we liked the hotel so much that we have extended our stay for 1 more night.
overall that we can say that we have exceeded our expectation.
we thank all of you for the great hospitality.

If you are looking for a cheap Goan hotel in Bagga....This is cheap, in Baga it isnt!

Our third trip to Goa, so we thought we knew what to expect, but nothing could have prepared us for the first 4 days
of a 14 night holiday.

The Riverside Regency Hotel
Have you ever slept in a bed that stinks of Marajuana?
Have you ever unpacked all your new holiday clothes in the wardrobes and they're damp and smell when you take them out to wear?
Have you ever tried to dry yourself with a threadbare towel that always feels damp?
Have you ever had Campylobacter or Salmonella food poisoning?
Have you ever hired a safety deposit box that you you only have access to at certain times of the day?
Do you like dirty smelly bar staff more interested in watching football or thebangra channels than serving you?
Do you like noisy loud rude drunk Russians smoking around the tables whilst you are trying to relax
Get the picture? Welcome to The Riverside Regency!!!!

Location
We spent so much time in Baga last year that we decided to use it as a base.
This hotel is nowhere near Baga, it's across the river on the busy road with a good walk across broken ground
alongside the river and emerges in the carpark at Baga where all the locals/fisherman park (it sound idyllic its terrifying
and a mugging or worse just waiting to happen! why? because your e a tourist and have money and its so obvious!!!

On our 2nd day we were struck down by what we thought was Delhi belly, something never experienced in previous holidays.
However, it was considerably worse than that and we spent 4 days confined to the room. On the point of self admitting myself to hospital I went to chemist whom prescribed tablets that appeared give us both a miraculous recovery and the diarrhea stopped instantly.
Two weeks after getting back to the UK and not feeling 100% had to provide samples to our GP tests confirmed SALMONELLA!
Imagine how bad it must have been to still have it after being home!!! Urrghhh!

Day 5 we checked out, got a cab Candolim, checked into our fantastic hotel and enjoyed the remainder of our holiday totally unaffected!

The moral of the story is, it is worth paying a little extra not to ruin your holiday. And believe me had we stayed a minute longer in that hell hole I am most certain we would have been hospitalised or worse.
When I say a little more I do mean a little more, everything is cheaper in Goa so for a couple of pounds extra per night that really is the difference between hotel hell and hotel heaven.

When you do go to that part of Goa ask the local taxi drivers what they know about The Riverside Regency...I am not compelled to write on review sites as Im always too busy, but do read them before we go...But I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.

You have been warned!

PS: We were too ill to take photographs and the camera never left the security box!

We chose the Riverside Regency for our Xmas holiday as we got an absolute bargain price. I have been to Goa many times before and this is a standard 2 star type hotel.
I liked the quiet location right by Baga Creek.
Our room was in D block at the back of the hotel and it was very basic , but, it was very clean and very quiet and the beds were actually quite good for Goa.
We didn't eat at the hotel or use the pool as we were out all day every day, I would say that as a quiet base this hotel ticks all the boxes and I would certainly stay again.

Stayed here for 11 nights and found it value for money. I was given a room in D block overlooking the new pool however after a few nights I decided to upgrade and was given a room in A block with a TV and A/C. The upgrade cost 700 rupees per night, thought this was a little steep for a TV however in the middle of summer the A/C would be essential.
The rooms are fairly basic however they are cleaned daily and the bedsheets are changed every other day.
The staff were fantastic and attentive.
The walk to the beach is approx 10 mins and there are taxis outside however they tend to be overpriced.
Breakfast was simply toast and tea thus I didnt bother after the first day. Food is average however there are plenty of places to eat close by.
Overall great value for the amount of money that I paid.

Location wise its a good resort. located near baga, calangute, tito disc. etc. otherwise there is nothing great about it. Dialy they server you same breakfast, bread butter. waiters are nice and helpful but the owners, the one who sits at reception are just so unfriendly and rude. They dont' have TV in any room. No room service.
You can choose it if you have no other option left. Also, prefer a resort in Baga only. Beacuse all the major areas are nearby.

Love this little Hotel, Great staff who are always so attentive, Although basic this hotel is in a great area and only 10 minutes walk to the beach, The food and service is what makes us return here, Rooms are cleaned daily and bedding and towels changed every other day. The pool is cleaned every day and there are enough sunbeds around the pool for the guests. Another pool has just been completed so all rooms now have a pool view. This hotel meets our needs and we will continue to book here . Taxis are readily available outside the hotel for any journeys and the drivers are polite, Security guard on the gate throughout the night is a lovely bloke and takes pride in his work as do all the wonderful staff. We will be back . Thankyou to you all for making our holiday once again very special.
