“Cheerful, welcoming, small paradise!”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

Blue Oyster is lovely, friendly, and very well-managed by a terrifically energetic and communicative staff. The rooms are clean and sunny, the restaurant run by a great staff, especially the incomparable Valentino. Everyone is helpful and welcoming and they remember your name and your particularities. You can swim (even at low tide) in sparkingly clean turquoise waters, go snorkeling on the coral reefs from a dhow with Captain Zappy, lounge and read and listen to the waves. Don't mistake the seaweed in the pictures - the water is totally clean and swimmable. I would come back here any time. The restaurant serves creative, good food, including many choices for vegetarians and vegans. Bathrooms might use a small upgrade, but otherwise everything was clean and comfortable. Mosquito nets and window-screens are in good shape - no mossies in the room. Blue Oyster is one of a handful of Tanzania hotels to win a sustainable tourism award - they are very integrated with the local community as suppliers and staff, serve fresh organic food. I will never forget the wonderful two days I spent here with my partner and friends.

Went directly here after coming down from the Mt. Kilimanjaro summit. Was exactly the right choice. The hotel is very nice and clean. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There isn't much to do - you come here to relax. Got deep into Dumas' Vicomte de Bragalonne while chilling out. Snorkeling is just ok - but you get taken out in a dhou sailboat. The restaurant is good. Only complaint is the mattresses are exceptionally firm. It is interesting to watch the villagers work the seaweed cultivation at low tide in the morning.

Room Tip: Go for seaside views.

This is such a relaxing destination - the colours of the ocean as the tide comes in and out are amazing - I sat on a sunbed and watched the whole day. The rooms are OK, basic but I preferred to be outside anyway. The food was a little slow in coming - sometimes an hour, but tasty all the same. The trick is to order in advance.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Blue Oyster Hotel for one week in February 2014. It was a wonderful vacation, very romantic and fun and relaxing!

Even though it rained a few times, it normally cleared up for the afternoon, and the sea was still warm and looked beautiful even on the days when it was overcast.

The staff and management at the Blue Oyster Hotel are friendly and helpful, the go the extra mile to make sure you are taken care of and are happy! I would recommend this hotel to anyone! The rooms were clean, spacious and nicely decorated, and included a few thoughtful touches.
The food from the restaurant in the hotel is first class, fresh and tasty (even though I am a fussy eater there was always something yummy for me to dine on as well as more adventurous dishes my boyfriend could indulge in)

We had a couples massage at the hotel from Zena, which was heavenly! They really know what they are doing -a must do!

The prices for food and accommodation are extremely reasonable and definitely worth it.
You can rent snorkeling equipment from the hotel, which is really convenient as the beach is right there and you might decide while swimming that you would like to snorkel too.

The people selling things on the beach did not bother us at all, we were happy because when they did approach us they made interesting conversation with us for a good while before getting on to what was on offer (jewelry or snorkeling or invitation to their bar further down the beach front or sailing excursion)

The hotel can arrange anything for you and has lots of different tour options on offer through other companies, and it is convenient as they have the information and pictures to look at in reception.

Room Tip: I was in a room with "garden view" which is a cheaper option, but it is so close to the be...

I stayed at Blue Oyster for a week. It is a lovely mid-range medium size hotel set in beautiful gardens right on the beach. This must be one of the prettiest parts of the coast, show-casing the beautiful azure sea. Yes, the tide does recede a (very) long way, but it's possible to go further along the beach and walk out to swim at low tide. The hotel has a very relaxing ambiance and is also unobtrusively but efficiently run by enthusiastic and helpful staff. A special mention for Robert. The hotel has a policy of employing local people; even all their photos are displayed in reception, a nice touch. Meals are very good with lots of local fruit and vegetables; and an excellent plentiful breakfast with nice touches of freshly baked breads and cakes.Compliments to the chef! Meals can be taken on the upstairs balcony with great sea views. The room I had was probably the least 'luxurious', but I asked for this room as I knew it would be quietest, and I was perfectly satisfied. Although I must add that the hotel was not noisy anyway. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend Blue Oyster to singles, couples, and families.

Room Tip: As I am a light sleeper I had a room at the left-hand side of the main building and it was very quie...

After one week safari in the Serengeti and other national parks of Tanzania, we flew to Zanzibar. At first we spent 2 days in Stone Town, which we enjoyed very much, then we drove to the east coast to the small village of Jambiani. Even the arrival was promising: the porter opened to us the gate and we were very warmly greeted and led to the reception. There we were got a welcome drink, it was explained to us the most important things and we were led to our room. The huge bed was decorated with flowers and also the room was just beautiful. Every seaview room has a big terrasse with a nice view to the ocean. The bathroom was standard but very clean and nice. The hotel overall is beautiful and very natural. The view of the turquoise seas seems out of this world and we could look at for hours on the sun loungers and enjoy the natural spectacle of the tides. While low tide the women from the village go into the sea to harvest seaweed, an indescribable sight, which we had never seen before. You can swim in the sea only at high tide, but we found the not so bad. Often we went to the village of Jambiani, chatted with the locals, bought souviniers and even visited the school. You can spend hours walking along the beach and enjoy a fresh fruit juice or eat something in the many small bars. Amazingly relaxing and gorgeous.
The small but very good breakfast on the Restaurant terrace with sea view we enjoyed every day. Various fruits, breads, pastries, etc.,from the buffet and coffee ecc. is served. Also the food in the restaurant of the Blue Oyster Hotel was always excellent. Fresh fish, very good meat, beautifully presented. The service was very friendly and courteous. Also total effect the whole team played very, certainly the handwriting of the German owner. It was an unforgettable week and we can only recommend it to everyone who wants to relax, Asante sana my friends.

Room Tip: Choose a sewview room, its much better.

It was the third time for me to go back to Blue Oyster. I find the hotel excellent, in a beatiful locotation, just on the beach. Amazing views and colors of the sea. Right place for resting. The food at the restaurant is delicious and good value for money. The hotel is very well organized and the staff is very friendly. I will go back

Room Tip: Room sea view first floor
