We rarely write reviews but our experience was without one drawback and so felt compelled to help other travelers in their quest for a beautiful Zanzibar holiday. We spent ten nights here after moving from the disastrous New Jambiani Hotel next door.
If you're looking for somewhere quiet to relax and get away from the stresses of modern life then this is for you. No distractions from wifi (though there is a desktop computer you can use in the office if you must), the other guests that were there (only 4 couples as it was off season in June) were extremely respectful and friendly. The staff could not have done any more to make us feel welcome and special, from the daily flowers on the bed and restaurant tables to their constant smiles and warmth. Masud is the manager who is meticulous in his preparation, ensuring that all day trips are well organized and on time. He never misses an opportunity to greet you and make you right at home. You really have nothing to tax your mind when on holiday here.
The location is perfect if you want the white beach on your door step and a number of other restaurants and bars a short walk up the coast. However, if you choose half board you'll find it difficult to go elsewhere for dinner as the three courses are divine and superb value.
If you're the type of traveler that wants more going on, parties, computer access and late night drinking then this isn't the place for you and you're unlikely to fit in with the other guests. However, if you're looking to unwind and chill out, meet lovely people and eat great food then you can't go wrong.
In June this is superb value as the beach is empty and the resort very quiet. Compared to the hotel we moved from it was practically the same price without the food. Having traveled extensively, I have not found a better designed restaurant and lounge made of all local materials and totally conducive to relaxation. It's not easy finding the right place as witnessed by many people we spoke to who were moving to Casa Del Mar from the original bookings. Hopefully if this fits your requirements you'll go straight there - you won't regret it!!
Masud and the team - don't change one thing, it's paradise!
