During our first trip to Jambiani, my wife and I tried a different restaurant every night and decided we would go to the best our last night. For me, it was hands down Blue Oyster. I had an excellent grilled cole cole fish with fresh vegetables including zucchini. The atmosphere and view were great too.
Unfortunately, the next night wasn't quite the same. The fish wasn't as good and our side of vegetables that night was a huge pile of mchicha (cooked spinach). When we asked if we could get vegetables like the previous night, the head waiter apologized and asked the kitchen for different vegetables. To our and the head waiter's dismay, our vegetables were served to the table right next to us by a different waiter. A nice surprise for them, another 10 minutes for us. By the time we got them, we ate some but didn't really feel like having them for dessert. It wasn't really what we had hoped for on our last night.
Since that time, we came back and stayed at the hotel and ate five meals here as it was very convenient. Overall, the quality of the food and service was good during our stay. It was nice we could order our food for a particular time although we never did get it right at that time. We usually had it within a half hour of arriving. The Triple CCC - Coconut Crusted Crab (9 Cs? ;) ) was excellent for lunch and again the cole cole was very good for dinner. We appreciated that their menu changed every few days. This time we all noticed that almost every meal was salty, however. On the last night my dish was almost inedible. Perhaps there was a new cook while we were there.
Most of the dishes are around 15,000 Tsh ($10) and up though you can find a couple of lunch items for 10,000 Tsh. While it is a little expensive, I think it would be worth it if they improve a bit on their consistency. I would say it's worth at least a meal during your stay at Jambiani.
