The Long Tom Pass has beautiful views on both the east and west sides. On the eastern side you have the forests and on the western side you have the cliffs and rock formations. The history of this pass from the voortrekkers who sought a trade route to Lourenco Marques as well as the Anglo Boer war is interesting. Imagine 16 oxen hauling a fully laden ox wagon up the mountain.

We were travelling to Sabie and crossed the Long Tom Pass en route. The views and surrounds are nothing but spectacular. It's a pass that one must definately undertake if you are lucky enough to tour Mpumalanga.

3 years after our first visit to South-Afrika we passed again through Long Tom Pass and again we were stunned by the views and landscapes. We even recognised the place we had a pick-nick then. When you are around in the area it is really a place you should go.

You see fantastic scenery as your driving through this part of Africa at eye level, you don't appreciate how vast it is though until you see if from above. Long Tom pass gave us fantastic views, truly amazing.

We went through lots of mist in places, which made some of the journey a little wary. It was patchy though and good to look back on to see where we'd been.

We'd travelled from Sabie to Lydenburg. The road out of Lydenburg was terrible miles of pot holes.
