Surprising small family Osteria in Richmond where you are served what the chef prepares. No menu buit dont let that put you off !

Very friendly service and a genuine "family" feel which was fun compared with many "production line" restaurants. Waiters (who we felt were family members) were more than happy to discuss where their produce was sourced from and to see genuine feedback from diners. We learned, for example, that they use olive oil that is produced from a friend's farm at Yea where they are also sourcing vegetables.

Very enjoyable dinner

We went on a busy Saturday night in winter and were seated by the door, so I was cold as people frequently went in and out. I ordered lasagna which was 'nIce but not amazing' my husband really enjoyed his meal. The wine is overpriced but there is a good selection. Our waiter was, again average and we weren't served very attentively - but as I mentioned it was a busy night.

We happened upon this restaurant last winter and managed to find a table despite not booking. The set up here is a fixed price menu, you eat what the chef patron creates. Numerous tasty, rustic, pastoral and authentic Italian dishes ensue, although the sanguincello will notnappal to all...pigs blood and dark chocolate!

You may wait a while between courses, but remember this isn't a fast food joint. Staff are attentive, knowledgable and the wine is fair. I imagine there will be plenty of unhappy customers in this environment, perhaps those less tolerant of the (albeit cliche) enigmatic chef patron's whim. I imagine that as a niche offering, this restaurant will sustain itself, although media coverage perhaps brings together patrons and patron with wildly different expectations of each other! Not for the faint hearted.

Set menu of $75 commences with antipasto, liver pate, followed by a soup dish, pasta dish, meats, dessert, cheese and coffee, makes for excellent value. BYO makes it an even better value choice. They will be licensed soon. The food was homely Italian, prepared with passion.
