Maremonti bed and breakfast was just what we needed after a long bus ride from Coca. The hotel is set on a hill about a 15-minute walk from the beach (good exercise on the way back up.) Puerto Lopez itself can be dusty or muddy, depending on the weather, and we did not mind the short walk from the hotel. Our accommodation included a large sitting room, bedroom, bathroom, and large balcony for $20 per person per night, including breakfast and taxes. The breakfast is wonderful, with a large bowl of fresh fruit, fresh bread baked by the Italian husband, eggs, meat if you want, and coffee. They will also cook you dinner if you order from a menu by 4 p.m., and the risotto and pasta we tried were very good. Marianella speaks good English and is extremely helpful in planning activities; she can provide contact information for bird guides and boats to Isla de la Plata. She will also do laundry for a small fee, although air drying in this climate takes a while. We enjoyed getting to know the family and would recommend a stay to anyone.

Room Tip: I think there are about 4 accommodations. See if you can get the one on the second level with the l...

What an amazing place to stay! We stayed at the Maremonti B&B for a week and had a wonderful time. The views of the ocean and town of Puerto Lopez were spectacular. The owners and hosts, Mauro and Marianella are the most wonderful, friendly people, and did everything possible to make sure that our visit was enjoyable, and the food they prepare is absolutely delicious! With the help of Mauro & Marianella we were able to plan our trips to the rain forest, National Park and other places and had a great time! When we visit Puerto Lopez again, we have no doubt where we will stay and will call the Maremonti ahead of time to make our reservation. We would also like to say thank you to Steve P. for recommending the Maremonti to us, it was everything he said it would be.
Thank you Mauro & Marianella for making our visit a Great one!

We stayed at the Maremonti for a week and I can say this is definitely the best place to stay in Puerto Lopez.

The only downside (If there's one) will be the location, it's a litlle bit far from the action and the beach because the hotel is located up on a hill BUT thanks to that because the view is just amazing. Trust me, having breakfast overlooking the town/ocean is priceless.

The room was clean, big, nice terrasse with a hammoc, table and chairs and as I said before, the view is amazing.

The owners are lovely and always helpful, the breakfast is really nice, and the chef will surprise you with a few changes, and added a bit of variety to the traditional coffee and toasts you can have anywhere else.

Last but not the least.. the food ! Don't even hesitate to have dinner there. You can order the food to the chef. Everything is made from scratch and taste amazing. Wine is really good (I know what I'm talking about :) and you can tell that the Chef knows his way in the kitchen.

We felt like we were home there, that hotel and the owners put a big smile on my face everyday !

Hasta pronto !

My husband, I, daughter, and her boyfriend stayed at this wonderful B&B. We did not know what to expect, our daughter made the reservation and had communication with Marianella. We were truly pleased with our accommodations. The view from the porch is amazing. Marianella and Mauro are great hosts, great cooks, and welcome you to their home. We stayed there 4 nights and will plan to go back. We did have a rental car which helped us to get around, but it's not a bad walk down the hill to the small downtown area and a slower walk up the hill back to the B&B. The apartment style accommodations and morning breakfast is definitely a great value. After three days of eggs for breakfast, we suggested Pancakes or French Toast, we were all egged out. ;) Marianella listened to our instructions for making French Toast and used Google for recipes, Friday morning we were all very surprised on the display of French Toast on our plates and the best tasting toast ever. ;) They definitely aim to please!

My wife and I together with our friends stayed with Marinella & Mauro for one night, prior to going Whale watching. They were the perfect Host's, nothing was too much trouble. The bruschetti and ice cold beer served after we arrived was great. A lovely dinner and dessert followed later in the evening, and our Host's joined us for coffee and jokes later.

After a good nights sleep, we were provided with a nice breakfast accompanied by home made bread and more delicious coffee. This set us up perfectly for our boat trip to watch the Whales, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. And it is now our "go to" place whenever we will be in Puerto Lopez.

Room Tip: Would recommend the two bedroom apt as it has a fantastic deck, but all the rooms have a great view.

The Ecuadorian / Italian couple that run Maremonti are truly fantastic. The food was well priced and delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed. The room was small but had plenty of air flow and the shower was nice and hot.
The best thing about the place is the service. We arrived on the night bus from Quito at 7am and the owners let us use their personal bathroom until the room was ready.

Some people have complained about the mototaxis not making it up the hill, it's only about the last 40metres of the hill that some of the taxis can't manage. We had about 50/50 luck of getting a mototaxi with a powerful enough engine to get up the hill, but the walk is not strenuous.

Do yourself a favour and go there!

Stayed at Maremonti over New Years. Was a great bed and breakfast feel, Marianella takes great care of her guests and her husband and other family hustle in the back making great food. Breakfast was simple, healthy, and I never got sick. They had a special New Years dinner with massive amounts of Italian food (husband is Italian) but with all the delicious Puerto Lopez seafood integrated and amazing dessert. Room was very very simple, but clean. We are not fancy people and the simplicity of it all helped unwind and appreciate the style of living there. I have bad dust allergies but had no problem. Bed was not massively comfy and is standard fare for that type of hotel in Ecuador - if you must have a great mattress and some pristine place with A/C, don't go to a place like Puerto Lopez! The B&B is located up on a hill, about 20 min walk to Puerto Lopez/beach. So it's not on the main strip and is somewhat isolated, but I was so glad we didn't end up "in town" - both for noise reasons and since the view at Maremonti was phenomenal. It's next door to La Terraza Hotel, PL's 1st hotel which looked fancier and probably a lot more expensive. Mototaxis won't take you to the door but part way up the hill. I'm 5 months pregnant and could walk from the beach home without much prob (but very slowly). But if you're traveling with very young or old people who have trouble walking, may be difficult. Re noise, yes the loud engines of certain motorbikes can be heard through the entire town, no escaping it. But certainly is less noisy than any hotel near the water. That said at night we could still softly hear the waves crashing. We dropped by Hotel Mandala, where we wanted to stay just based on reviews, but were glad we ended up in a place with more personal service and not so busy-feeling. It's all about what matches your taste. Overall it fit ours well and we'd certainly go back.
