Machalilla Tours Company: well organized, fast boat, ok lunch (Vegetarian option available too), soda but only one gallon of water for 16 people (what??), $37.50 each (after negotiating)
Our guide was ok and spoke good English but was EXTREMELY boring. Also, the guide had us stop in the blazing sun (it was over 90 degrees out) over and over again for rest stops every three or four minutes. It would have been hilarious how often she had us stop if we weren't DYING from the heat. Seriously, I know there was a bunch of fat Americans in the group (myself included) but COME ON! I would have realllllly preferred to have done the hike without the guide. Also, it would have been nice to have been able to pick our own path (the guide took us on part of the red path and part of the yellow, I think). We didn't get to see any Frigate birds and only about seven blue footed boobies up close. We weren't disappointed though with the Boobies! As for the snorkeling, they give you an hour but we were all out of the water after 15 minutes because we ALL got jellyfish stings (mine is about seven inches long)and because THERE'S NOTHING TO SEE. It's just a bunch of dead coral. Plus, the water is really dirty.
The tour left at 10am (although we were told to arrive at 9:20) and we came back to Puerto Lopez at 4pm. Overall, it was a good day!
