“Great park”

Riding Mountain National Park
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 14, 2013

My friend and I took our 2 teen boys. They had a blast. Which we all know is not and easy task to keep teens happy. We rented the Idylwylde Cabins. I'm not sure why they aren't listed on tripadvisor. They were fantastic. Loved the cabin. A little more than the other cabins but we thought its was worth the extra. Right across from the beach. Right on the main street. The older kids were down for the weekend and were able to rent a boat and fish. You do need a fishing license for The National park. We did a bit of hiking. Trekked to Deep Bay. Theres restaurants and shops along the main street. Campground looked great. The beach is so nice. If you are planning a trip you need to book ahead for cabins etc. We lucked out because of a cancellation.

As a big city boy (Manchester UK ) I'm always glad to breath in country air. Riding Mounting is in a class of it's own. Drive through the park your sure to see Bears, Elk, Dear and all kinds of wild life. There are numerous hiking trails in the park to suit all ages, old folk can just saunter along at thier own pace, yong people can try more energentic walks. There are numerous golf courses in the area. The town of Wasagaming is not to touristy, just a grand place to buy things. A trip out to Lake Audy to see Bison is a must. Loved every minute of my visit.

I've been coming here since 1979, and I just love the place! If you reside on the bald, flat prairie, being here in the rolling hills of boreal forest is quite a refreshing change of scenery! The town of Wasagaming is a great place to rent a cabin, go camping, stop for a meal or just have an ice cream. The interpretive centre is absolutely marvellous. They show films and have lectures and presentations daily. It's a very small community, so if you stay for a while I'd recommend shopping for groceries in nearby Dauphin. The place has one drawback, and it's a serious one - the lake is infested with parasites that cause welts under the skin that require a trip to the doctor and some pharmaceuticals to treat. They do have showers on the beach, and they advise you to wash yourself off every time you swim, but sometimes it's not enough. If you really want to swim, please use the pool wherever you're renting in Wasagaming - it's just not worth the risk.

Have been several times to Riding Mountain. Start at Dauphin then travel through Park! Loved the scenic route, lots of beauty, lakes and photo opps. I love to stop in the town of Riding Mountain, great little cafes, shops, and not touristy but nice things to purchase. The walk to the lake is nice, a beautiful vista, great place for a picnic! Places to stay a great place for a getaway for all ages. Nice to park your car and wonder the town!

This Canadian National Park offers many very interesting walking trails, well-cared for campsites at a variety of locations throughout the park, very helpful Parks staff, opportunities to take your canoe out on small lakes & creeks and an interesting variety of wildlife. It is a a gem of a park to observe wildlife in their natural wild settings...Moose, White tail deer, Black bears, among the larger animals. We even had an inquisitive Pine martin watch us near one stream. It was September and the forest was full of Sapsuckers and we also saw beautiful Spruce grouse. The drive to Lake Audy is worthwhile as there is a herd of Bison near the lake. What a grand sight!
The Park headquarters and the Visitor Centre in the village of Wasagaming in the park offer much information and a knowledgeable staff. There is a variety of accomodation, good restaurants, a fine bakery and shops in the village.
We spent 3 days there, stayed at a comfortable Wasagaming motel, ate delicious breakfasts at the Bakery & enjoyed the various trails. They offer brochures with the trails described as to length and difficulty to help plan appropriately. It was a wonderful nature experience.
