“A peaceful place on the lake”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

After reading the rest of the reviews I felt that I have share our experiences here.
We have been going to Gallagher Lake Lodge for years, staying in the lower level of the lodge. While the place may not be all that much to look at from the road, when you go through to the lake, you see paradise. The beach is well maintained and the deck is a wonderful place to let the world slip away and relax at just about any time of the day.
The rooms may be dated but they are always clean and the current management has been doing upgrades in the off season to improve the rooms and amenities.
The staff and management are approachable, cheerful and friendly.
The managers, Mel and Izzy are very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay exceptional.
The lake is spring fed which makes it cool but clean and crystal clear.
We will be going back, hopefully many time in the future.

Let me start off by saying that I had read all the reviews before booking, and seeing there were mixed reviews, I had to check for myself. YES........ the rooms are old..... but the beds are very comfortable. It was AMAZING quiet, especially seeing as you are right on HWY 97.
When sitting outside our room looking at the lake, we NEVER heard any traffic noise. Secondly... the hosts, Mel and Issy were wonderful, friendly, overly helpful. I went there for a fishing trip because I had heard that the lake held bass, which I love fishing for. Although we did not get any bass, we had a fantastic time catching Yellow perch, and sunfish. In fact, in the middle of the day on Saturday, we took out one of their paddle boats, and just for the fun of it, took our rods with us. Issy told us where she caught fish from the dock, so we paddle out there and got a large PERCH. The water is CRYSTAL clear, sand bottom in the swimming area.
Not only would I recommend this place to anyone, I have already booked for next year, early in the season when the bass should be biting.

I've been to this lodge for 4 years straight now and each year I leave and I wonder why I spent the money. The reasons I come up with have only to do with company of the friends and family I that meet annually there.

Accommodations are ghastly. Rooms are dilapidated dark and grungy. Beds are old, furniture and appliances in each suit or cabin looks as though it has been bought at a garage sale. The managers Mel and Isabell are a couple of heartless old bats who dont care about their guests, and care even less about their loyal returning customers. Mel and Isabell know that they are the only non-camping accommodation on the lake and wont hesitate to remind you of it with their endless threats and rules. It’s unfortunate that this place has gone so far down the wrong track because the lake and location really are one of a kind. If you really have to go to Gallagher Lake, go to the campsite on the other side of the lake.

After reading some of the reviews here, we were a bit hesitant to book a room, but are we ever glad that we did! We originally booked for three nights and ended up extending our trip to seven nights. In fact, we've already put our names down for next year and are trying to figure out how we can escape to GLL for two weeks!

The room that we were in was certainly a bit dated, but it was clean, and had daily maid service. Nothing fancy, but well-equipped and comfortable. We appreciated the kitchenette and BBQ and were able to keep our expenses low by cooking meals ourselves. The picnic table, which was in great shape and in the shade, allowed for very comfortable meals outside our room.

Mel and Isabelle, the managers, were incredibly accommodating and very friendly. They brought out treats for our girls and helped us out in countless ways. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in the place and have put a lot of work into making it into a great vacation spot.

Now for the best part... The lake and beach! The lake is crystal clear and even standing up to your neck in water, you can see clear to the bottom. There is a dock to jump and fish off of and we even caught several fish. Perch and sunfish mostly, although we caught sight of several bass that seemed to elude us. There are plenty of life jackets and a couple rowboats and paddleboats that we took out a few times. I'd bring a few floaties and sand toys as well. There is an air compressor so you don't have to worry about blowing them up by mouth or foot pump. The sandy beach gets pretty hot during the afternoon, but there are several shady areas to spend your time. Blankets are not allowed on the grass, as it burns quite easily with the heat, but there are plastic adirondack chairs that are comfy enough. I think I will bring an outdoor pillow next time too.

For a family with young kids, this really is a perfect place. While one daughter napped, we were in a great place to relax and could see her as soon as she woke up and came out. The whole area is private and contained, so we could always see our kids and the other guests were so friendly it felt like there were always several adults looking out for them as well.

This is by far one of the most relaxing holidays we've had in years. I hesitate to put forth such a good review in case it starts to get booked up too quickly now, but after reading the ones previously posted, I think it is only fair to those who want another viewpoint. This was our first trip to GLL,  but definitely not our last.

FYI, the lodge is NOT part of the campground. You can see the beach that they have access to, but really are not bothered by noise from it. Although when I saw the number of people on that beach compared to ours, I sure am glad we didn't choose to camp.

Room Tip: Lower rooms have kitchenette, upper, only fridge.

Over the last 25 years we have been going to Gallagher Lake Lodge both with our Family and friends on many Summer vacations and numerous golfing expeditions. We love Gallagher Lake, the setting, the mountain, the mountain sheep and the lake. But sadly, last year was our final trip to Gallagher. it's not that the setting isn't magical, it is. But sadly, it is the management and their sour attitude which has turned us off completely. We have experienced three to four different owners and managers during our time, but this present crew win the prize. Their attitude to service, upkeep and genuine hospitality is negligible. Paying guests do not expect disrespectful management. I've never seen any place with so many rules. You can't lay on the grass or have a lounger or chair on the grass etc. Maybe they should pave the grassy area? Are they receptive? No, they are not open to suggestions nor do they care how many years your family has been coming to Gallagher - maybe long time guests can offer some ideas. No.I heard Mel say one time, "it's the long time guests that we have the most problems with as they think they are entitled." Any long time guests felt entitled because they cared. Now, we no longer go to Gallagher for the week in the Summer or the golf weekends in May and Sept. We still go to the area but not Gallagher Lake Lodge. Never...wonder if the owner is aware what's happened @ Gallagher Lake Lodge or do they care. Sad.

Room Tip: don't stay in the cabins on the highway...claustophobic

My wife has been going to Gallagher Lake since about 1986. I've been the last 4-5 years. Gallagher Lake Lodge used to be a fantastic value but hrough neglect is now unacceptable.

The managers' choice of how to spend money seems bizarre. The new deck and the LCD TVs in every room are nice, but I never thought "what this place really needs is a deck to sit on!" Nothing needed to be added to the beach; it was perfect already.

During our week-long visit the maid service only came through once; apparently it was "their week off". A long time ago they came every day, but times have changed.

Last year there we could hear rats in the ceiling over the bedroom. We complained, and the operators seemed shocked and said nobody else had complained. This year, instead of rats there was a cockroach floating in the sink. The shower/bathtub are beyond maid service and need to be gutted.

Mealtime is more difficult than necessary because dishes are missing and the appliances don't work well. When we arrived we had two dinner plates and one cereal bowl. (There were other dishes as well, but the essentials were really thin on the ground.) There is no dishwasher, so you have to hand wash dishes after every meal if you want to eat later. Couple that with a small sink and little counter space and I was pining to be at home in my own kitchen.

One element on our stove simply didn't work. The BBQ in front of our unit leaked propane even with the burners off - needless to say I didn't even try lighting it. The two BBQs next to it caught fire.

The bathroom door didn't close properly, so even though it had a lock the kids were always barging in. The bedroom door needed to be forced closed, and opening it made so much noise it startled awake anybody sleeping.

The beach and the lake are very good. Our kids were happy spending their entire day playing outside. There's a set of swings as well as row and paddle boats. Outside our "motel" unit is a well maintained grassy area, a large stock of patio chairs, and a deck over the sand with recliners. Because the beach is private and not shared with anyone, and there are no motor boats, it is a great place to sit and read.

Unfortunately, even with that beach and lake we cannot stand everything else, so we will not be returning next year.

I used to love this place but sadly the new management has destroyed the family atmosphere that used to be the charm of this now dilapidated inn. Mel the manager and his wife are extremely off putting and treat guests as though they are dirt. The rooms are old and dingy, the appliances are out of date and the carpets are stained and musty. The lake is small and quaint with no motor boats allowed it can be very peaceful but alas this one positive can't make up for the shear ineptitude of the couple that run it. I would encourage anyone considering a stay to look elsewhere. As a side note my family and I had been yearly visitors until the new management infested this once charming roadside lodge with their nasty attitudes.
