Description: Ten miles from Cardiff, in the historic market town of Cowbridge, you'll find Huddarts Restaurant. It's worth the trip. Inside the beautiful Georgian house, dating back to 1756 you'll find a delighful intimate restaurant boasting a selection of A La Carte dishes with a marriage of old time charm and modern splendour. Since 1996 all produce has been sourced as much as possible locally and prepared on the premises by owner chef Andrew Huddart, front of house is looked after by his wife Julie.

“Great for a Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2014

Thanks to the staff for a great Sunday lunch, set price for three courses £19.95, with a good choice for each course, broccoli and stilton soup was good with home made herby bread on the side, 3 of us plumped for roast beef, 1 for pork and 1 for breast of chicken, all very pleased with their choices, great big crispy Yorkshires and veggies on the side. We had a 3 year old and a babe in a push chair along and it was fine with the staff, an off the menu kids meal of breaded chicken strips, chunky chips and greens was provided without fuss. The house white from South Africa, and the red from Spain were also great - both under £20 a bottle. Finally some desserts, and a perfect welsh cheese board, fresh strawberries and raspberries featuring, even a kiddies dessert with style, we asked for some ice cream and strawberries and had delivered a beautiful dish of ice cream in a biscuit basket, sliced strawberries and a mix of coolies - our little one beamed at her grown up pud. Thanks Huddart's you never fail

“A quiet Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

Right on the main road through Cowbridge a quiet oasis with an elegant cadre and modern cooking with a different tilt. We ate bream with lime and rosemary sauce on a risotto bed after a starter of belly of pork on rhubarb. The ubiquitous chips were there again.

Excellent service with just a glass of wine each.

“Delightful food at great price near free garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

On the main street of this small town with one hour parking outside the door so if you've a window seat you can watch your car. Great food. Owner (wife Julie) on site to see you are promptly greeted, seated, served and satisfied. Her husband Andrew is in the kitchen cooking and plating your food. If they are not too busy at lunchtime and you are new to the area this gives you the opportunity to ask about the local attractions and way of life.
Lovely hand washing gel in the ladies toilet.
Great choice of wines by the half bottle and glass which is good if one of you is driving.
Order dessert first - they ran out of the sorbet with ginger which I wanted although they had no more than two other tables of couples.
Across the road is a free garden to visit, a good break on a long drive between one side of Wales and another or on the way to or from Bath, Swansea, Cardiff or back to London.

“Fabulous again! !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014 via mobile

We recently visited Cowbridge again on business and ate at a few of the eateries. Fairly average if I am honest but nothing to complain about however on the last night we ate at Huddarts again and clearly saved the best for last. The service was impeccable and the food to die for. You can clearly tell that these guys have been in the business for a long time and value their customers. Having the wrong potato option sent with my would not have phased me, it clearly would have been delicious either way and I am sure it would have been rectified asap.

“Very disappointed...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2014

Six of us visited Huddards on the 11th July, and I'm not sure if it was a bad night but, they sent out the wrong potato option with the steak, and one in our party did not get their main meal until the other five had almost finished. The table staff were very apologetic, but that doesn't really help. Very amateur, not what we were expecting. I don't know if the owner and head chef were away or had a night off, but we left feeling disappointed.
