“Wonderful escape from the rest of the world !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

Just returned from a two night stay in one of the safari lodges at Pentre Mawr, so sad that we aren't still there!!!
We booked as a birthday treat for my husband, and it was perfect. Hard to imagine you re in a tent whilst stood on the heated floor in the 5star bathroom. We loved it.

After a very nice welcome with bucks fizz and coffee and cake, we were shown to our lodge, Graham showed us how to work the hot tub, and left us to enjoy. We spent a lovely afternoon sipping champagne and then got ready and went up to the main house for our meal. Again very warm welcome, almost like visiting family.

The meal was fabulous, my husband was a head chef for many years and still works in hospitality training, and to be honest we are both keen cooks, which makes us a little snobbish with food, suffice to say we both compared the meal to our wedding dinner in the grand hyatt new York last year. We told Bre, who had cooked this wonderful meal and she very humbly described herself as a cook not a chef... I beg to differ it was a meal prepared by someone who likes to taste nice food as opposed to make what other people suggest. The meal n the second night was also superb, however I over indulged on the homemade soda bread and couldnt finish my dinner, and had to skip desert :(
Graham her husband makes a lovely host and gently checks what you needs, whilst letting you have your own space. They are a great pair!

The lodges are fab, location beautiful, and food fantastic !

We took our two doggies and they were made very welcome too, with treats and blankets of their own.

Staff all very helpful and all you need and more In the rooms.

I didn't even mention the king size bed ...

We will certainly be back hopefully sooner tether than later x

Just returned from a few days of rest and relaxation at Pentre Mawr, we really wanted to stay in a safari lodge but they were all full so we booked, on Lynda’s recommendation, Upper Gardener’s cottage which was just perfect, the views were lovely. The food was excellent, we told the owners that I was vegetarian before we arrived and there was loads of choice for both me and my carnivore husband and Bre even change one of the sauces for him. We took our young dog Barney who got on brilliantly with Darcy the new puppy and there was a blanket and doggie chews in our suite for him when we arrived as well. Graham dropped us up on the Roman road with Barney and we walked back to the village and home, stopping at the pub before wandering back to our hot tub. I read that one of the other reviews that said the suite was over priced, well all I can say is that he forgot to mention that we had a lovely lounge with TV/DVD player, little kitchen with fridge and Nespresso coffee machine, iPod dock and bathrobes, slippers and an iron and ironing board and a powerful hairdryer which was excellent as we were in and out of the hot tub several times a day during our stay. The bed was huge as well. We also had free wifi in the main house and got afternoon tea with Bucks Fizz when we arrived. Our bill which was full price came to £574 and that included two very good bottles of South African house wine and G &T before dinner each night and that was five courses and coffee……………not bad I think!! We’ve booked for a short break at October half term and we’ve got a special offer for then, but even if it was full price we’d still be back as we though it was wonderful value and just a perfect place to stay.

We came across Pentre Mawr when looking for somewhere extra special for our tenth wedding anniversary. And when we found out our beloved pooch could join us, a romantic trip for two, turned into a trip for three of us. We chose the "Glamping" Safari Lodge, wanting something a little different. And we didn't want to leave...

Location: The Pentre Mawr Country House is set is a beautiful location, with lovely views. It is a great base for exploring North Wales, Snowdonia, and Anglesey is only an hour or so away.

Lodges: WOW! The lodges are out of this world - they are huge, especially when a 6 stone labrador is involved - we had tons of room. A beautifully large bed, comfy sofa in the main room, full sized fridge, coffee maker, kettle, iron, hairdryer ... A massive bathroom with roll top bath, wet room shower, double sink, separate loo, and toiletries.
And of course outside, the sunbeds and the hot tub, which we made the most of - using the hurricane lamps to enjoy a late night dip in the rain! There is heating/air con, and extra blankets should you require them.

The food: Seriously some of the best meals I have had - the duck dish was glorious, and the fish casserole on the second night was divine!

But the one thing that sets this place apart from any other 5* establishment we have stayed in was the welcome and hosting. You will read the same in the other reviews, but Bre and Graham and their team have got it spot on. Warm, welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, but neither are they intrusive. They create a lovely atmosphere which led to us meeting some lovely couples to chat to pre and post dinner! But if you want to tuck yourself away that's fine too!

And lastly a note on the doggy friendliness of the place. Max was warmly welcomed by everyone, and made friends with Darcy the four month old pup who is the latest addition to the doggy family of Milly, Molly and Maisie, all of whom like to frequent the drawing room for after dinner cheese - although if you are not a "doggy person" they stay out of the way. The dogs are not allowed in the dining areas. The horses (notable Kyle) have a penchant for polos and apples too - we found polos in our room and by the front door for them - a lovely thought.

All in all, we seriously didn't want to leave - we would highly recommend this to everyone!

Room Tip: We loved the Safari Lodges!

This was a birthday treat for me from my hubby.... Glamping in Wales..... The accommodation is tremendous, the location is truly beautiful, the food devine, but above all the attentiveness of the owners and staff makes this truly a break to remember..... We will 100% return

Having stopped in many hotels I found the cottage here to be nice but over priced. You have to have evening meals at weekends, which brings cost to £300 a night if you have wine with dinner. The jaccuzzi was a half sized one but very powerful. The swimming pool! is a plunge pool definately not as large as the picture makes out. The best part about the cottage was the wetroom styled bathroom. Nice little pub, Kimmel Arms in 15 min walk and a Creamery / Factory shop.

What a fantastic place. The owners Bre and Graham made us feel so welcome, from the moment we entered the Manor we knew that we had found a piece of heaven for the weekend. Our room in the Manor was large and spacious and beautifully decorated, and the en suite was huge with a lovely slipper bath and very large shower. We took our 2 dogs who were allowed in the room with us and there was a blanket and a dog treat waiting for them, how thoughful.A five star luxury Manor which is very dog freindly, and it just got better as the food was first class , we were spoilt for choice. There is no down side to this place,Its just ticked all the boxes, and the location was wonderfull.Tucked away down a country lane but easy to find.

Ok - so imagine the picture: 2 hard working girls, overworked but not necessarily underpaid...... We work hard, play hard and love nothing more than a complete escape from our day to day.

So we turn up at the impressive Pentre Mawr and politely decline the cream teas (after all you never who you might meet whilst dressed in your bikini). Imagine our delight then, when we were rewarded with a glass of bucks fizz which was spot on! They got us straight away that's for sure - in fact, they had us at Bucks....

So we polish off our Bucks Fizz and if you thought things couldn't get any more relaxing we were offered the option of a golf cart to our private cottage suite ! How could one refuse ?

The cottage suite itself was everything we wanted - hot tub, private terrace, large bathroom and walk-in shower, separate lounge, walk in wardrobe - and a fridge ! Awesome!

Add to this, perfect hosts in Bre and Graham (and the various fabulous cats and dogs), delicious food, awesome breakfast (including more of the Bucks...), beautiful surroundings and a stunning house. Seriously though - nothing at all was too much trouble and always delivered with a smile. Can't fault anything - there were even polos for the horses !

Such a memorable holiday - the key question is when can we go back?

We will definitely take the gorgeous Bailey (loveable brown Doberman) next time.
