We loved the views over to the Outer Hebrides, the cliffs and the skyscape. Also the lighthouse, whilst not visitable, was visually worth a few phorographs.

The views from the point will show you the essence of Scotland. Looking inland, you will see towering cliffs and waterfalls -- maybe even a rainbow if you're lucky. Looking out across the sea ("The Little Minch" to be specific) you might spy the craggy coastline of North and South Uist. All the moods of the ocean can be witnessed from this vantage point at different times and under various weather conditions. But one thing never changes: the stunning natural beauty.

Thank goodness for the stunning locaion, otherwise the effort to get there would have been a complete waste of time. It is worthwhile going for the location but if you're expecting to see the lighthouse close up then you won't. Instead you will be met with various signs saying 'private' 'no enrance' 'guard dog'. The lighthouse iteself is well maintaied, bright white and as you would expect it to be. However, the cottages are in a poor state of repair, clearly not maintained, the gardens are overgrown and again, clearly not cared for. I have visited many lighthouses in my time and to see what can happen to them once they become automated and the cottages are sold off to private owners is heartbreaking. Almost a blot on the landscape. Go for the views but not for the lighthouse.

The drive to Neist point is pleasant, but it takes a long time to get there and you may better spend your time elsewhere. However, if you're eating at Three Chimneys restaurant, you might as well pay the place a visit. Fantastic views on the path NW of the parking lot that look down at the point's cliffs and lighthouse.

Unfortunately my partner and I have been hampered by some average weather during our stay in Scotland (chronic winds and a bit of rain), but it couldn't take the shine off of the view from Neist Point. We didn't bother going to the light house, but we did take 1,000,000 photos of the coastline across the ocean.

Truly an incredible view and one we'll never forget.

Highly recommended.
