“Heaven on Earth”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

At the time of writing my partner and I have barely been here two hours and have already fallen in love. I usually wait until we've concluded our stay to write a review, but i felt complelled to do otherwise.

After a somewhat taxing drive north from Oban we arrived to a very helpful couple and an incredible place. Our bedroom is decent with a comfy bed, a closet (with robes and slippers), a tv and a laptop for our own use.

The bedroom and bathroom are great, but pale in comparison to the kitchen/lounge room. There is an oven, microwave, stove, fridge and even a washing machine. I'm blown away by what they've done for us. The fridge is ready to go with bacon, eggs, fresh orange juice and what Im pretty certain is salmon. They put together two delicious fruit salads as well. These are just a few of the items they've got on offer (Pringles, cereal, jams/butter, etc)

We're yet to see the sights, but truth be told I would nearly be ok with staying inside for the duration of our stay such is he quality of the place.

It's a fair way "off the track", but believe you me, you will soon forget about the commute once you step inside.

Would stay here again without a second of hesitation.

We enjoyed our stay here, it really was a good way to relax at the very end of our two week trip to Scotland. The hosts give a warm welcome to everyone, and have a wealth of information on what to do on the island, and you won't go away hungry!

The house is modern, very clean, and casual, and has large rooms. We had the super king-sized bedroom with views to neighbors farms filled with sheep (they are free-range, and are usually safe to be around, but just take the usual care, they move off the roads).

They have great internet connections, and each room has an IPad for your personal use, with no charge. They have lots of dvds, and books if you should have some rainy weather. (We had a mix of wind, and some scattered showers for part of the day, but there are lots of art galleries and Dunvegan Castle to help keep you dry; and Dunvegan's garden and tea room make for a nice afternoon.)

Breakfast is included, dinner is extra, and both are very generous, and healthy. Their dining alcove has large windows that look directly out at a bay, and you can view the waterfalls that fall into the sea from the cliffs, and the small fishing harbor with binoculars. They also feed the birds, and they have a set of birdbooks you can consult.

Don't run over the chickens as you drive into the yard, and tell them "Peggi sent you!" Steve is a great guy, lots of tales, and full of laughs.

Room Tip: Recommend Supper Kind Size Room - complete with large jacuzzi tub and seperate shower.

The location was ideal for an out-of-the way stay on the Isle of Skye. The hosts were amazing! Highly recommend dinner at the Three Chimneys while you are there, but take the hosts seriously when they say make dinner reservations at the local hotels ahead of time!

We really loved this spot on Skye. Very near the lighthouse which is worth a hike for the lovely views. Steve and Julie are so kind and welcoming. We stayed in the separate apartment and the refrigerator was stocked with fresh eggs (from the chickens out front) and other goodies for breakfast. The apartment is very clean with 1 bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. Near the famous Three Chimneys restaurant (many people book this because of that, we did it in reverse). We passed a lot of b&bs on the way here and some looked quite shabby, definitely not the case here.

Room Tip: The apartment has its own kitchen, but doesn't have access to the breakfast room with the lovely...

With my brother and his wife over from Australia, we spent 4 nights at "purpose built" and modern Carter's Rest - in both the B&B and the attached self-catering apartment. Both were well equipped, comfortable and peaceful. Breakfasts were delicious and the owners, Julie and Steve, were friendly and efficient hosts. It thoroughly merits its 4* rating.

Everything from the welcome from Julie and Steve when you arrive to the goodbye when you leave is first class. We stayed in room 3 this time (Master last time) and it was fantastic - great seating area, internet AND laptop and a great mini bar. Once again I cannot fault Carters Rest.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August and were really impressed with the quality of accommodation. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, and the furnishings and fitments were of impressive quality. Breakfast and the overall service was outstanding, and Steve and Julie were friendly and helpful.
I can recommend this B&B wholeheartedly, although you should bear in mind that it is very remote and can be a mission toget to after a day out.
