As it says on the tin, the only floating pub on the Caledonian Canal and a great place to stop for a drink or some food.

Loads of atmosphere and banter around the bar and called in for a deserved late lunchtime drink (or two!) to revitalise the tired body after walking from Corpach, and then walked back down the busy A82 later for dinner - don't forget a torch if you are doing the same and walking back after dark - and had a good salmon steak for dinner and more banter with canal cruisers moored at the locks overnight.

Ideal for walkers (and obviously the canal cruisers too) as the Eagle Barge is on the Great Glen Way at Laggan Locks, but also easily accessible for motorists with (free, I think) car parking facilities only 200m off the main road.

If you are staying at South Laggan you can either eat here or at the Great Glen Water Park a mile up the road. For a totally different environment with a random mix of the boating fraternity, walkers, locals and passing motorists, my vote is for the Eagle Barge, but remember to book ahead from the online menu if you want to have dinner, seating capacity and food storage space are limited so the chef will want to know in advance what you intend to eat.

“There is only one Eagle Barge, one Eagle Barge (sing and repeat etc)”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

We have now travelled here by boat and car. There is nothing quite like this place, for banter, real ale, log fire ( in autumn), dog friendly, impromptu live music (bring your own instrument or voice). The owners are from Kent but have been proud Highlanders for years. The atmosphere is unique and totally relaxing. You can have haute cuisine or cafe food, or just a drink at the bar. You can also sit outside if the weather is good. As first time Caley Cruisers this is great for mooring up and then just chilling. It's unpretentious and everyone is treated equally, whether they are rich boat owner, boat hirer, walker, back packer, cyclist, adult, child or dog.....this place just does it so well.

“Lovely Location”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Stumbled upon this while out walking our dogs while staying at Great Glen Water Park. Nice pint and lovely location when you need a wee rest. Thought it was hilarious, a pub on the water :-) .

“A very welcome beer in an unlikely place”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We were there - at Laggan Locks - on a glorious day, so the barge's roof and outside were full of cyclers and walkers. Lovely atmosphere, good beer.
