Having spent the rest of our Scottish road trip in generic chain hotels, booking Garadh Buidhe was an unknown quantity. We decided to drive there early evening without eating dinner since we figured we'd head out later and find somewhere. However, after showing us our room Jane asked if we'd eaten and said that she and Michael were going for fish and chips and would we like them to bring us some. Being six months pregnant and having just driven from Inverness with the last twenty minutes driving "off the map" down winding lanes, I was extremely grateful. This was not part of the standard service, but was kindness over and above what we'd expected. As we relaxed in our room, they brought us a fish and chip supper in our room, that they'd plated up and brought up cutlery, sauces etc.
The room itself was lovely. It was a shame that one of the window panes was smashed due to a recent accident, but the view was still beautiful and my husband and I both moved our chairs in front of them both evenings to appreciate the view of the surrounding landscape. It was very peaceful and one of those rooms that makes you feel at home. It was clean and decorated tastefully with lots of added extras e.g. DVD player (if you'd rather not just look out the window!), packets of biscuits, toiletries etc.
We'd booked through an online agent and were told we'd have "continental breakfast" included. I was expecting the usual guest house cornflakes and toast, but we were given a card the night we arrived and asked to select what we'd like for our cooked breakfast. This was also a pleasant surprise. The cooked breakfasts were prepared individually and were fresh and delicious. There was also cereals, toast and a variety of fruit available, which meant that we were well fed.
Jane and Michael were very welcoming and very attentive during our stay. I would definitely recommend the drive out of Speen Bridge or Fort William to stay here. It really IS worth putting up with the highland cattle blocking the road to get to it!
