“great!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

I don’t understand the bad reviews!? I thought the hotel was just perfect! It had a lovely restaurant with a great variety on offer, the chip shop was lovely - the fish was the best I have had in a long time! The food portions were more than enough and I’m a big eater! The breakfast was great and with lots of variety of food and drink. The hotel is brilliant, the bed was comfy! We had a room with an en-suite which had a bath and shower plus a communal bathroom we could also use just down from our room. The bed was very comfy and the sheets/towels supplied were clean and fresh.
The bedroom itself had a flat screen TV in with Freeview :) We had a kettle; tea/coffee etc, plus heating in our room which we could turn up or down on the radiator so no feeling cold.
The hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and welcoming! The whole hotel and small museum have clearly been very well looked after with lots of interesting items all around.
This hotel is NOT white washed so don’t expect that - It has plenty of character.
Lovely places to stay, the views from all around the hotel were amazingly beautiful. I will definitely be going again!
Thanks to all staff.

Absolute dump, dirty carpets, beds were like laying in a hammock, smelt of human excrement in our bathroom.Food was disgusting. Commando bar a joke dpm tablecloths and curtains. Would of been better off sleeping in my car. Avoid total crap hole.

Room Tip: book somewhwere else

We were staying in Spean Bridge and was told without any prejudice that the food in this establishment was left to be desired. However we took that on board and gave them the chance to prove opinions wrong. How we should have trusted those opinions. We entered via the front door and it looked dismal on entering and making our way through to what is called the "Bistro bar" where there is a collage of memorabilia about the commandos etc. The gentleman on the bar was pleasant and took our drinks order which was the best part of the evening. We ordered their steak pie and chips and a chicken burger. If trading standards was brought in they would surely be held to rights on both accounts, the steak pie although had a pastry top was sat uopn a sea of insepid looking stock cannot be called gravy, with the meat looking very grey and the wifes chicken burger was from a frozen packet and looked as though it could have been shown a grill. The chips had a taste which was not pleasant. Being the stereotypical British we didn't complain but tried to eat what we could however we were hungry. But my advice to anyone reading this take heed of what people say to you and what we have put here it's absolute rubbish what they served, they did an injustice to both the names of those dishes. I do not criticise easliy but do know I am a very competant amateur cook and could have produced far better meals myself to serve in a commercial establishment. Next time we visit this area we will keep a wide berth of this place, although the Guiness was a good drink surprisingly!!!

We were sullenly turned away on a very cold, wet day because it was 2:01pm, and they stopped service at 2:00pm! This, even though the place was almost deserted.
The previous day, at another establishment, they had cheerfully served us a very good pub lunch, about half an hour after official "closing time".

Not bad but nothing exceptional, we stayed in one of the cottages. The good thing is that it was recently renovated, quite clean and quiet. The bathroom was small but clean, staff was a bit strange but we spent there only one day and one night so it didn't bother us much.

The accommodation was ok, a little tired perhaps but the thing that killed this visit was the couldn't care less attitude of the staff. We arrived in a pre-booked group of 17 with a pre-booked dinner. We were told at 8pm that dinner would not be available and we would have to make other arrangements. "Sorry, but there it is" Difficult to believe that anyone in the "hospitality" business would toss away £400-500 quids worth of trade along with all of the goodwill that goes with it.

I would not return under any circumstances with the current operator.

Stayed there on our last night on our tour of Scotland, and it was the worst place to end our trip. Stained and dirty old couch, walls need paint, cobwebs in the corners of the room, no shower only something that connected to the taps for a bath so we had to kneel down. Sheets had holes and carpets had stains. Walked around in flip flops around the room. Security not the best in our room. Staff were unhelpful as our TV was not working and was from the 90's. Food in the was limited, 5 items we asked for were sold out and what we did get was a big plate of fries and a small amount of lasagna!

Room Tip: Don't stay here!
