“cant believe visitor centre gone”

Owner description: The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

“A Pleasant Rest Stop”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

The Falls are pretty but dont expect anything big. Its a pleasant leg stretch and journey break but the only reason I would go back is for a piece of the Banoffee Pie in the cafe (or two!)

“Worth a look”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Popped in to have a look whilst passing by lovely place and lots of birds round the water
the weather was great and the sun created a rainbow in the spray off the falls
No salmon jumping of course as it wasn't the right time of year but i assume that that would be an amazing sight on a nice day
the shop and cafe are quite expensive though
