Owner description: The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

“Sunday lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

15 members of our family visited for Sunday lunch. After reading on the website that the food had improved but unfortunately this was not the case. The complaint is not so much with the quality of food but the fact that the food from the hotplate at best it's no more than luke warm, really disappointing as the surroundings are very nice.
I would also suggest that it would be nice if staff asked how you enjoyed your food as it would give you the opportunity to give them feedback at the time.
As a large family who live quite closely, the problem with the temp of the food is a long standing one, which we hope will be resolved in the very near future and then we will be more than happy to leave positive feedback.

“Nice crockery but Average menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2012

A bit tacky other than the crockery (Tain pottery..very nice). Cafeteria menu & style. Service average with lengthy queues when busy...visited by many tour coaches. Food average to good.

“Something to do”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

Went with the kids in a double buggy so we were not able to go down and see the falls as if there was wheelchair/ramps access we couldn't find them?? Spent ten minutes going down another path before we realised we were going the wrong way. Unfortunately we also timed it when a few coach loads of tourists arrived so although my husband managed to go down to the falls on his own (didn't see any salmon though!), it was very crowded. The tourist centre wasn't bad, it was a bit pricey but didn't really matter as we didn't buy anything. There is a childrens area outside but it ws raining on and off so we didn't bother with that. All in all, it was worth a visit but from my point of view, nothing much to see.

“Harrods of the North!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

Good, home-cooked food in the restaurant, comfortable seating with pretty woodland views. See the salmon leaping the falls from July to September - but take your anti-midge cream if you are going to wait! Morning not the best time if the sun is shining as it falls directly on the 'take-off' pool. After midday the trees provide shade for the jumping fish.
