“Perfect for ferry AND foodies!”
Reviewed December 8, 2011

Fiona concocts the most wonderful evening meals - veritable feasts! On our two visits, B & Bing at The Merchant's House for trip over to N Ireland, she served us incredibly delicious food, both evenings.
And Alan's wee bar, with the extra-surging Guinness is a delight!
What a find!! We look forward to returning ere long.

We ate in the restaurant for dinner, as well as stayed overnight. Perfect for catching the ferry. It was a bit noisy early in the morning as some ferry-goers obviously got in. It didn't disturb us for too long, and is obviously an indication that they welcome people into the wee hours. The hosts were very friendly.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget, ask for shared bathroom - we saved 10 pounds for the night and had the bathr...

A wonderful experience. The lovely hostess is a fantastic cook and looked after me in every way possible. This is the place to stay before crossing to N. Ireland.

We stayed overnight at this hotel before catching the early ferry and also had dinner in the restaurant. The room was very comfortable and the food was excellent and very good value. The proprietors happily supplied us with a very early breakfast. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them and they were so friendly and easy-going. We would highly recommend The Merchants House to anyone and will certainly look no further next time we are in the area. If you can't actually stay there, then you should definitely try out the fabulous food!

This is a small and comfortable B&B establishment very conveniently situated for the Cairnryan ferry terminal. Our room was good and comfortable (ensuite a little cramped), with view over Loch Ryan.
Parking available just outside the door. The proprietors are welcoming, the homemade food is excellent, and prices are reasonable. What more do you need?

We stayed just down the road and were recommended the Merchants House to eat.

WE can't rate the hotel as such, but the restaurant is a hidden gem.

At first we were unsure, but the value for money was the best of any night on our touring holiday.

The soup was truly delicious. The rack of lamb, with potatoes and 5 vegetables was excelent - only fault was I couldn't make the most of my equally excellent breakfast down the road in the morning!
