The Stables Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #8 of 9 Antrim B&B and Inns

As we approached The Stables, we were impressed by the beautiful (and huge) front yard and beautiful home. When the host arrived (the son of the owners - who were on vacation), he was very nice. He showed us the room which was adequate. The entire place had a very dormitory or "old folks home" kind of feeling about it. Odd musty smell, narrow hallways and rest home colors. We took the room because it was late and we were exhausted but would not recommend it. It was quite disappointing to find out that the huge yard in front was balanced out by the complete lack of yard behind the rooms. This was billed a a country home and yet the room we were in was mere feet from the wall of the neighbor's home. No fence. The neighbor had car batteries laying in the side yard not too far from our window. And a roadway was directly behind that! We couldn't leave the window open due to the roadway noise.

The breakfast was good.

The next day, we asked questions of our host who had no idea of any local attractions. There are only a few. I would recommend that anyone owning a B&B in the area aquaint themselves with them.

I stayed here with my boyfriend while we were flat hunting in the area in july 2005. It's a small B&B (on the main road to Carrickfergus), with only a few rooms so it's essential to book, but you could be lucky and grab one if it's quiet! the room we stayed in was one of 2 in a small building originally converted from a stables . It contains a very nice kitchen and living room, with a table for dining. There's loads of books on the shelves and a t.v to keep you entertained aswell. The room was decorated beautifully with lots of cushions on the bed and comlimentary tea and coffee. It also had a single bed, aswell as the double and a couch, with the ensuite decorated to the same high standard. As if that wasn't enough the thing that really makes this place the best B&B i have ever stayed in, was the breakfast. In the morning the living room was turned into the most amazing buffet with fresh fruit and an abundance of cereal to choose from. A basket of assorted breads and preserves was only to start as the Landlady presented us with a full Irish Breakfast that would have sedated a baby elephant!!!The owners of The Stables were an endless help to us in our search for somewhere to live and even made a few phone calls on our behalf-friendliness like that doesn't happen every day. You can rent the entire cottage for short to medium stays also, so if you were planning a trip to see Belfast and the coast line up to Portrush, this is a very convenient location and at roughly ?40 including that breakfast i would recommend it to anyone!
