“Takes some beating for horror and expense.”
Reviewed April 14, 2009

Considering how much is charged per night, I have no idea where the money is spent. Everything needs updating, replacing, cleaning and rethinking. Hotels have moved on by a couple of centuries but the Gordon House Hotel seems to be clinging to the horror of 1970s style (not so) Great British holidaying.

Dear all,

We were looking for a cheaper (than the 140 quid we paid the previous three days a night) location. The tourist information centre recommended the Gordon house (please be noted that they were not too willing to advise us) We, way to hasty, decided to take the room shown to us. Afterwards we looked a bit closer and not only found out that the water in the bathroom was undrinkable ???? but that everything (literaly) was stained. The bed (the duvet was be increditably dirty) the sofa (guess jam staines) the carpet was dirty and burned. Anyway, please don't ever go there if you want A. to sleep a bit clean B. not used to camping in a dump. (We hated/detested it so much that we left a 6.00 in the morning, just to get away from it.) P.s. the hallway smells awfull. Kind regards and be aware, Jolanda

We booked 2 rooms, requesting that one be on the ground floor for an elderley person. It was a bitterly cold weekend but the heating was only turned on when we requested it, The bedrooms were grubby, curtains didn't have enough hooks to fix to the rail. Both rooms were up a series of staircases. Rooms and particularly bathrooms were unclean. Window in room offered had section of frame missing and the cold wind whistled through the gap. Definately would not stay there again a dreadful dreary place.

Room at the rear could hear trains passsing through station all night, room had a musty smell and needed a good clean. The shower cubicle toilet and sink not very clean. Restaurant food and service was excellent. Staff friendly and polite.

we stayed for valentines and overall had a nice eve. getting the bad points out the way, here goes:shower rooms were quite dirty and shower enclosures had mould in them. the mattresses were very lumpy and the springs came through. good points:right opposite rochester cathedral, old fashioned four poster beds had a feeling of just stepping back in time quite grand, you could imagine staying ther over 100 years ago. breakfast was quite nice.

  • Liked — the old ambience
  • Disliked — the showers
