We were a party of 4 and had no problems booking a table the morning of our sunday lunch visit. The restaurant appears to be a chain though I had not heard of Simply Italian before and is run by Italians which is great to see. I think the owner was in the restaurant whilst we were dining and was greeting some of his regular customers which is very nice to see.
Unfortunately I thought the staff were quite noisy often congregating at the bar chatting often quite loudly inbetween waiting on their customers rather than being attentive and checking on their customers e.g. between courses some of our cuttlery was not replaced until after our main course was served and we had to walk up to the bar to ask for water. No matter - these little grumbles do not distract me from writing a very positive review.
We were on the soft drinks however the range of Italian wines and beers is good.
I ordered the fried calamari & baby squid with aoli and a side garnish. Very tasty and not greasy. For main I ordered a tagliatelle with a creamy sauce with wild mushrooms. The main was well presented and pasta was not overcooked and was delicious. Having a weakness for tiramisu, I ordered this for desert which was very tasty and a delight to eat.
In summary-pasta was excellent and very reasonably priced. I think more attentiveness is needed from the waiters to warrant a bigger tip! I will certainly return when next in town.
