We made a late booking to this Guest House. The accommodation was superb - probably the softest bed in the whole world! Christa was a very welcoming host. The breakfast was amazing - I would wholeheardly recommend this Guest House over any hotel in the area and would not hesitate to go again.

I completely agree with all the positive comments about this B&B. The welcome is genuinely warm and friendly. The location is great, in a quiet side road within easy walking distance of the sea, restaurants and public transport.. the transport is very good in Broadstairs you don't really need a car. What makes this place stand out from the crowd is the breakfast, it really is very good and Deliciously different! The quality of the ingredients is superb, they use local cheeses and fresh kent apple juice. The owner organises the Broadstairs food festival so you know good food is important to them.

We recently had an overnight stay at South Lodge with another couple and we all agreed that the guest house was a real find, in a great location close to everything and there is off street parking too! The owners, who are very helpful and friendly, have given a lot of thought to what a guest may require during their stay and it is all there - sewing needles and thread, bottle opener, shoe shine kit, dressing gowns and slippers, fictional books, radio, etc. etc.

The room, bathroom and bedding were scrumptiously clean, with comfortable mattress and pillows. There was a good variety of teas, coffees and biscuits and they served a lovely healthy breakfast. My husband said that he would have preferred a full English but went on to comment that he had enjoyed the healthy breakfast option anyway!

We would definately recommend South Lodge.

We'd just like to say that we had a truly magical time in Broadstairs, thanks in large part to Bill and Christa who made us feel so welcome. The room was lovely, the bed comfy but it was the breakfasts that thrilled us. Such variety and all healthy, especially the smoothies! We can't wait to get back later in the year. Thanks Bill and Christa.

From the start, the woman standing in for the owners (unfortunately, I've forgotten her name) was pleasant and very friendly.

Our room was immaculate and pristine. The decor was lovely and understated, without too many frills and furbelows. The beds were very comfortable and long enough for my 6'2" husband. It was also a decent sized room and we had plenty of storage for our luggage.

The shower was a good size - we didn't have to worry about bumping into the walls as we've done in other places. The water pressure was excellent.

I particularly liked the extra touches of cotton swabs and cotton balls.

They offered a continental breakfast instead of the conventional full English. But this was a superb continental - 5 or 6 kinds of cheeses, fresh fruit (like fresh strawberries, kiwis and raspberries, not canned grapefruit), delicious smoothies (which I don't normally have), cold meats, hot porridge, cold cereals, juice, tea & coffee, cold cereal, croissants and rolls, and jams, honey etc. Toast was also available. It was a delicious and freshing change from a full English breakfast.

A very pleasant establishment and I would heartily recommend it.

South Lodge B & B was just fantastic. My wife, two daughter aged 7 and 9 as well as my older sister in law had several wonderful nights here with Bill and Christa. We were amazed by and really looked forward to breakfast every day. The locaton is great - just a short walk to the beach and shops. Hospitality was second to none. We would HIGHLY recommend this B & B to anyone!!

Okay, so we weren't expecting the Ritz, but we were definitely expecting a room that didn't smell of ancient carpet/fag smoke, and which didn't have a dangerous step over which we tripped every time we entered the room.

For £96 we were absolutely not expecting to have to trail down to a shabby beach cafe for a sub-standard fry-up, in the open air. I couldn't believe the proprieters' attitude on this - when I asked if a cooked breakfast was provided I was told in no uncertain terms that "hardly anywhere serves this nowadays". What nonsense! Perhaps we've just visited better quality B and Bs, but we have never, ever been told that a cooked breakfast wasn't available. Come off it - for £96 you could have managed to cook something more interesting than hard boiled eggs.

Oh, and as we were leaving to go to our undelightful beach cafe we were set upon, as if we were about to do a runner without paying. Thanks for that - it was charming to see your hideously untidy sitting room while you sat with your tongues hanging out for a thoroughly undeserved cheque.

You should be ashamed of yourselves - how you got a Silver Award is a complete mystery to us.

It is always disappointing to get a bad review, and yours is no exception.
Nothing much was right for you and your partner, which we regret.

Yes, we offer a continental breakfast, and nearly all our guests tell us how special, filling and beautifully presented they are. We get many reviews on Trip Advisor, Eviivo Frontdesk, Late Rooms and other review sites. Nearly all reviews we get compliment us on our breakfasts in terms of quality and quantity. Something clearly went wrong for your stay and we are sorry about that.

The Louisa Bay Cafe is by the beach in Louisa Bay and is definitely not substandard. It is a seaside cafe on the beach, so it is not a sophisticated restaurant, but we eat there regularly and the food is simple, to a high standard, well presented and good value. A much higher standard than most beach side cafes.
It is also a great feeling to have a breakfast in the morning sunshine and hear the waves on the beach lapping a few feet away.

I am not sure there was much if anything we could have done to help you enjoy your stay. But even if you do not wish to come back to South Lodge, don't miss out on visiting Broadstairs, it is really such a lovely seaside town with many fine B&B's, ours included I hope.
regards

Bill & Christa
