“5 star sea views; 3 star accommodation.”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Its all been said before, but here goes; excellent location overlooking the bay (if you get a sea view room). Comfortable, lively-ish bar and coffee shop. Good bar food. Like another reviewer we had room 21 - quirky, well decorated and nice facilites, but there really is poor noise insulation between it and room 22. Why not brick up the adjoining room door?! Staff were a mixture of very friendly and curt (not rude). Exceptionally good breakfast, which we got to enjoy on the terrace in the morning sunshine. A pot of coffee on the table might have been better than the time wasted waiting for one at the buffet. Overall a good stay. Broadstairs is lovely.

We stayed for two nights in March 2012.The room was a twin with a very nice sea view and had everything that we needed. However there was just a normal door separating us from room 22. Through this door we were able to hear the television and the voices of the occupants quite clearly. We did not have a peaceful first night. We were unable to change rooms as the hotel was full but as we knew that our neighbours were leaving we stayed on. Luckily our new neighbours did not watch television were more quietly spoken. Presumably the occupants of room 22 would have heard us if we had been noisy. Apart from that, great breakfasts, a lovely terrace, a good choice of food and friendly staff.

A very comfortable hotel in a good central location. Spacious room (we had a "superior sea view" so obviously can't speak for the other rooms). Excellent bathroom. Fabulous breakfast (my wife recommends the Eggs Benedict); Friendly, efficient and unobtrusive staff. Great seas views. Highly commended.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the room was very comfortable and well decorated, the staff friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the bar area was really nice to have a relaxed drink and snack overlooking the beach. It's in a good location in Broadstairs near lots of nice restaurants and yes the parking is a short walk down the street but you can always drop your bags at the front of the hotel and then park. I can imagine it would be really lovely in summer when you can sit out on their terrace.

Room Tip: You can either have street or beach view. If you go to bed early and are a light sleeper then beach...

We stayed at the Albion for 1 night in February. we had one of the balcony rooms on the first floor. The room was lovely - very clean, stylishly decorated and with a small ensuite shower room. There were french doors onto a balcony with fantastic views of the sea - and it was warm and sunny enough to sit out with a coffee!
We ate at the hotel in the evening - which was good value and tasted great.
The hotel breakfast was excellent - a buffet of cereals, fruits etc and a choice of cooked options (full english, eggs benedict etc) all prepared with fresh, quality & locally sourced ingredients.
All in all a fantastic hotel in a lovely location - would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms are worth it - they are compact (but adequate) and the views are outstanding.

On our first visit to Broadstairs we were recommended to stay at the Royal Albion. What a find!
Prior to retiring I travelled extensively (often away 15/18 nights a month) throughout the UK generally staying in 4 star hotels – the 3 star Royal Albion could put many of them to shame!
The reception area is a little unwelcoming but the welcome from Shane (the Manager) made up for it!
Our room (15) was excellent – light, airy and beautifully decorated and furnished. An attached bathroom had an very large rolltop bath and separate shower cubicle.A very comfortable 6' bed. All the 'amenities' from the fast, responsive heating to the well positioned tv and radio were good quality and worked (how rare not to encounter some 'problem' in hotels!).The room also had access to its own table and chairs on a balconly overlooking the sea.
The restaurant, bistro and bar areas had a good friendly, informal atmosphere and have plenty of tables overlooking the sea. There is also a large outside seating area,
We did not use the restaurant however spent sometime in the bar before and after meeting friends elsewhere for a meal. There appeared to be a varied choice of food and what we saw looked good.
Two notable features of our brief stay – the very friendly and helpful staff and the first class quality of the breakfast (especially the fresh fruit).
We'll be back!

(The only slight 'poor mark' was is relation to the only member of staff – in the bar – who was rather offhand and clearly did not want to be there. However every other member of staff was so good I've overlooked this in the marking!)

Room Tip: Pay the few £ extra for a sea view!

An unprepossessing Lobby area does not augur well, but once in the room: overlooking the sea, we were won over: you can wake and sleep to the sound of the sea everey day in the comfortable rooms: well equipped and lit and good value for money (especially if you get the offer we did in Feb!). The rooms have radio alarms with plug ins for iphones, a nice deep bath and range of toiletries and comfy bed: but the view and the sea are the reasons to come. We were surprised by the lack of noise on the second floor.
Parking is 100 yards away and had a slightly annoying daily permit system, but apart from that slight disadvantage I can recommend this hotel unreservedly.
The breakfasts have a full range. The restaurant was good without being oustanding but there are other good local walkable alternatives.
