We had a wonderful one night stay at Bleak House. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the ambience was warm and cosy unlike the weather! We had a superb three course meal and the chef was amazing. He catered to our dietary needs making a separate and very tasty sauce. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and full of charm.

We stayed here only one night with friends. Wish it had been longer. Broadstairs has been a regular excursion for us since childhood and the big house on the cliff top has always had a fascination. The opportunity to actually stay there was irresistible and we were not disappointed. It has an atmosphere all it's own mainly due to its connection with Charles Dickens. We had a very warm welcome on a cold, wet and windy afternoon. The room (Fagins) was very comfortable and the breakfast first class. Got a free look round the house and the Smugglers Museum in the extensive cellars. The later might be considered a bit naff by some but it's a nice bit of fun. Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms seem to be priced according to size and view but we had a look in some others and all seemed g...

Having read some of the negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive when booking. We were not to be disappointed, the house and gardens are enchanting, unique and picturesque with with the ‘feeling’ of staying as a ‘house guest’. Its true there are many things we would change and am still figuring out why every room downstairs were filled with dining tables but that still did not warrant a reduction inn marks. Overall I have to give it a rating of five as the staff could not do enough for you. We would visit again.

Room Tip: If you want history choose the Charles Dickens room.

I live in a rambling 16th century G2 Listed building. Often i go away to arrive and wonder why I left. So called 'Destiantion Venues' usually don't deliver. Take away the Dicken's factor and still Bleak House has character [ in spades ] , clearly why the author loved the place. Its atmosphere might well be lost on someone that favours living in a new-build executive-home, those types will be needing an instantly forgettable Hilton and a Harvester. Messrs Hilton etc know what the mass-market wants.

The bad reviews are rahter forgetting what the palce is... it can never be a 'corporate box' with the bells & whisltes, or a hotel in 'that' sense. It was never built to be that. If you're 'up' yourself, thsi will not be for you. Me? I loved it. A perfect palce for a Dad and his boy to spend a night. We would like to have stayed longer... but...

OK, the wi-fi let me down so could not work that evening, so i had to go home. A down-mark. Yes, the wi-fi would have worked in a Hilton.

The hallway is vast and fantastically dramatic chasm that should really be used to greet guests, and on a cliff-top, the parking is limited, a pain, but there is not much they can do. I hope they greet guests via the main door soon, awkward but rather do-able. It si afterall why you'd stay there.

[I put some cooking-oli on the latch to the side-door but that is another story.]

Clean to the point of obsession, decent mattress, the staff were great, the layout quirky (that si a good thing) , but then perched on a cliff-top this enormous house leaves no room for 'golfist' corpotate types and their expectatiosn. In truth it is a swanky B&B with prices to match, but this is Bleak House. If you're expectign a 'Holiday-Inn' on a clifftop, you'll not get it. For me this is fine - I wasn't. So if you're in 'marketing' or you're an accountant stay away. Now if you're a free-spirit, and if you want something different, and therefore truly, truly memorable, do it, and do it now.

All reviews are greatly appreciated especially when one enjoys what Bleak House has to offer.

Very sorry you was not greeted at reception through the main doors as which is usual unless

The weather was bad which would account for wifi reception that loses signal.

Bleak house and it's team thank you for your stay and look forward to your return visit in the near

future

Very best regards

I recently booked the dickens room for a weekend break, after booking I read the terrible reviews that I saw which I considered to be a nightmare report on the trip advisor, I had contacted bleak house to try and change my room as it had put me off. As they where full they couldn't do anything so I was reassured that everything would be great. I am so pleased that we went and stayed in the dickens room from the moment of arrival we were treated like royalty by the staff, we had our bags taken to the room which was wonderful with fresh flowers. The Victorian bed was ever so comfortable and the ambience and character is something you have to experience and to write in the Charles Dickens study where I wrote my postcards and letters was just fantastic. We had a 3 course meal, I ask for fish chips and mushy peas it was so good that I ask how they did the batter. Fantastic break

Just back from a weekend stay at bleak house and cannot understand the negative comments by some guests. We were looked after from start to finish especiallly by geoff who helped us in with our bags getting us a drink from the bar when we wanted one and the rest of the staff were so friendly. We found the room clean and the bed was huge and very comfortable. We would definately stay here again.
