“little treasure”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

been to this quaint little tea rooms many times, we walk our dog and pop in to have a cake and tea, have to say the staff are very friendly and efficient, menu is a little limited but our kids love the hot chocolates and cakes, the shop is quirky and our girls always enjoy looking in the well?, it is the sort of place you would just walk past and not really notice, so if you are in the area - it is worthwhile a visit,

“Great value breakfast / lunch - very friendly”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Visited a couple of times for breakfast & lunch. Great value staples (bacon & sausage sandwiches / jacket potato etc). Very friendly service. Dogs allowed - so the interior is rustic, but for value probably can't be beaten locally. Reasonable cake selection too.

“Dog friendly haven on a wet March Sunday lunctime”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We had friends down to visit and after our usual dog walk on the beach wanted somewhere to eat either a breakfast or light snack, having eaten far too much the previous evening.

Our number one choice for the day, Beaches which allows dogs and do lovely food was shut for the winter, what a wasted chance.

We therefore thought that we would have a coffee and snack in the Tartare Frigate snuggling next to the open fire. However although we were allowed in with the dogs, the landlord informed us when asked that they didnt serve food downstairs on a Sunday and if they did, we wouldnt be allowed with the dogs. So thats them wiped off the list.

So we trundled up the high street to see where else we could eat and saw the sign for the Old Curiosity Shop which stated they welcomed dogs. We waited a little while outside for a table for four as the place was heaving and went in.

What a refreshing change, children and dogs welcome, basic light menu, snacks, burgers, toasted things, hot drinks and home made cakes. Prices just right.

The owner/waiter informed us that someone had once made a complaint about dogs in the premises and the council had visited. What a waste of tax payers money, dogs are allowed in restaurants/bars/eating areas there are no 'health and safety' laws that prevent this despite what many establishments will claim.

We will certainly be back and by the looks of the many people in there, so will the rest of the clientelle.

“Lovely, quaint tea rooms”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Found this by accident and glad I did! Lovely warm, friendly team rooms offering good choice of sandwiches/jacket pots/cream teas/cakes (home-made & Large portion!) all tucked away along a side road leading down to Broadstairs Beach. The premises is steeped in history and displays lots of little artefacts on the walls and very dog friendly by providing water bowls at the entrance for the furry-legged ones. Lots of locals seem to visit over the winter having regular "coffee" mornings and I should imagine, this place will be heaving in the summer months due to the excellent location. Well worth a visit and good value for money.

“Unexpected treasure”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

What a great little find! Not only open in the cold snow but warm and lovely food too, couldn't believe the value for money.
There is a well inside the Coffee shop, complete with history and skeletons!! Proper Dickens style.
Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere, will definitely be back for Coffee, Pannini and Carrot Cake again.
