“friendly and comfy”

I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely hotel in september and was really impressed by the friendliness and cleanliness of the place. Nothing was too much trouble, the hosts were able to cater for my vegetarian diet, getting in special vegi sausages for me (which other places rarely do - they just offer you the breakfast without the meat!), the breakfast was between 830 - 930 so plenty of time to get a few extra winks of sleep if needed and they provided me with a wealth of info on nice places to eat, and visit. I am suprised about the comments regarding dog smells, the place was beautifully kept, no sign of dog at all, the rooms were highly maintained with thoughtful extras such as bottles of orange squash, hot water bottles and a selection of current magazines and books in the residents lounge - perfect for relaxing with in the evenings.

We stayed here for a long weekend in August. The hotel is right on the seafront being just a 5 minute stroll to the harbour area. There is no designated parking although plenty of space on the road directly outside. The hotel is very quaint and just like the rest of Broadstairs, has been caught in the 1960's time warp. The elderly owners are very pleasant and friendly although if you are like me and hate dogs you will not like the smell or the fact that the large animal was allowed to lounge on the guest sofas in the breakfast room. Breakfast was sufficient and has to be ordered before you went to bed by filling out an order form on the hallway desk. Served at 8.30am is probably a little too early for most, certainly for my party containing two teenagers! Bedrooms were ok, clean and quiet, bathrooms were very small, just managed to squeeze a shower cubicle and loo in there. Decor was very 80's but bed was comfortable enough. Water and squash, plus tea making equipment in the room.
We had a pleasant stay and at £36 a head we couldn't complain but I think it was just a little bit too dated for us, probably more suited to the over 60's.

The Devonhurst is overpriced for what it is. The room wasnt very nicely done out with crazy patterns everywhere that made me feel dizzy! Breakfast was 8.30am on the dot not between 8-9 so was a bit too regimentated for my liking. Also the breakfast wasnt nice, i had porridge and it was made with lots of salt! The toast was always cold. The place stank of dog aswell as there was a dig roaming around all the time. The room was clean though nothing wrong with the cleanliness.

  • Liked — It was clean and good location
  • Disliked — the breakfast, the smell of dog and the crazy patterns int he room
