I should say that if you want to visit the Mere - best advise would do it in the spring/summer... went for the first time yesterday and it was a quagmire! Toilets/Cafe/Ice Cream window were all closed so had to go elsewhere for a cuppa - you would have thought that on a lovely sunny winter weekend they would have made some effort for the cars up there (we were not alone!).

The cafe is undergoing renovation at the moment and I hope that this renovation is also used to sort out the access roads as these are potholed and realistically only suitable for a 4wd vehicle!

Limited walking possibilities - should have thought that walking around the Mere would have been possible :(

This is a vast lake although not very deep. You can feed the birds and ducks, go for a boat ride or just have a cup of tea. The place has an olde worlde feel about it and well worth a visit. the only drawback is that it is not possible to walk round the mere, and any circular walk would have to be done on busy roads. Wassand Hall, a manor house on the estate, has nice walks but is only open on certain dates.

This is a lovely spot to take your picnic and admire the Mere. In better weather you can go on the Mere in rowing boats but it was far too windy when we visited. There's a cafe too.

As we drove down the winding road to the mere and into the large car park, we had to be careful not to run over the many species of birds especially the Geese and Ducks! The large expanse of water was overwhelming with the yachts out sailing in the breeze.
We called into the cafe which is quite pleasant a little expensive with chalkboard meals and a glass case with cornishes pasties, pies and cakes. We just stuck with our usual coffees as we call here frequently! The staff are very pleasant and the cafe is clean and tidy.
There is a small putting green which we played on, but needed weeding as the ball was all over the place ha ha!
Overall it's very enjoyable.
